Gardasil - HVP Vaccine
Is anyone familar with this shot? Is there an age window when a female should be getting it to be effective.
For ex: is this just for teens or any aged woman?

Its up to 26, but you have the year after that to get the vaccine as well.

My stepdaughter is 12, and she just went to the doctor for a checkup. The recommended she get it by next year or before she is "active"

I would definitely check the side effects on this. My neighbors friend (her DD) got the shot and had horrible side effects from it. I don't know the whole story, but since it hasn't been out that long, I would just do some research.

ITA - I have a 9 1/2 year old DD and she is NOT getting this if I have anything to say about it. She has all her other shots, and got them all on time but this one....really scares me.

I agree. I'm glad it will be out for a good amount of time before I even have to consider it.

It's really scary that the side effects could be that bad. I especially don't like the wording of Link 4 !
My mom and I were talking about it too because my 18 year old sister just had her first gyno appt and they recommended it for her, and my mom is not sure what to do.
There are over 100 types of HPV. About 30-40 are the most common found "down there" out of that only 4 are covered by this vaccine. Those numbers aren't good enough for me IMHO......

My SILs are 14 and 17 and have had it, as has my 25 year old sister.
I was 25 when I got pregnant and it had just come out, my OB said I didn't need to get it.
