Gardening Question
Ok, so I have a black thumb...but I will try this year!
I plan to dig out a circle around our fron light pole, and plant some flowers in there. It gets south sun all day, very little shade, so I am not sure what to use...
Any suggestions?

Re: Gardening Question
I use impatients or marigolds in my shady areas and usually have pretty good success.

This is a very sunny area...would they work there, or would they fry?

Re: Gardening Question
Our impatiens never do well in the sun all day, they need lots of water! New Guniea impatiens do better in sun, I think. Last year we put in Begonias and they did really well!

Re: Gardening Question
Impatients should not be southern exposure, too much sun.
Marigolds, petunias, flox should be OK....I am planting these in the front where we get sun all day too. My gardener suggested these flowers, and said NO IMPATIENTS - TOO SUNNY!

I saw wave petunias that looked pretty, maybe I will try them.

Re: Gardening Question
You can do New Guinea Impatients, they can handle southern exposure but like previous posters said regular impatients will fry in a southern sun.

No, they will NOT. Impatients, especially New Guinea impatients (more expensive) do very will in the hot sun. I have always had them in the sun and they NEVER have fried. I just have to water them every day. I have never heard that it is too sunny for those flowers?? I guess I never had a problem

Impatiens Rebecca's Garden : Episode REB-620 -- More Projects »
Impatiens are nearly a foolproof annual for shady gardens. Feed lightly with phosphorus for even better performance.
Double-flowering impatiens
You don't need a lot of patience to grow impatiens; in fact, this flawless flower shines in the shade. Because of its popularity, hybridizers have been busy at work creating a host of new varieties.

Re: Gardening Question
Try Dianthas aka Sweet Williams. You can get the most places that sell flowers. They are perenials so they will come back every year.
