GD girls .... bad fasting number ... glucose pill ?
I just got back from the drs office. I've been on the GD plan for 2 weeks.
My fasting number was suppose to be 95 or less. Its pretty consistently been 96-105 ... Dr is now sending me back to the Winthrop place in the next week for a consult to see if I need a nighttime glucose pill, and back to him right after ....
I'm kinda nervous now, what am I in for?
I also asked the dr after reading up on here and it seems Winthrop will keep the baby in the nicu for 1 day to monitor levels.

Not a winthrop patient but, I was put on meds during my pregnancy to control my fasting numbers. It was just a pill I took at night with my bedtime snack.

It sounds like they will probably put you on a pill at night such as glyburide. There's another pill that I can't remember the name of. Some people actually prefer to take insulin instead because Glyburide isn't proven safe for pregnancy (but it is prescribed often and I know people who have taken it without any problems). So, look into it before hand to see which option you are more comfortable with and talk it over with the doctor.
If you still have time to experiment, try exercise before bed.
I am going to Winthrop too. I have pretty regular appointments with them. But it soulnds like your OB was monitoring you after the initial Winthrop visit? I wish I could cut down on these appointments and just do everything in my OBs office.
They will need to test the baby multiple times after birth to make sure their blood sugar isn't too low. I'm not sure about keeping them in the NICU.

The other pill is Metformin and it is considered a category b drug during pregnancy. The thing I like better about the pill is that it will not drop your blood sugar too low like needle insulin can. If you have any questions, fm me.

the winthrop appts are annoying. I already went to the winthrop diabetes center - and got the meter and meal plan. Now 2 weeks later the dr doesn't like the numbers. YET, I noticed that the diabetes center gave me a bottle of test strips that expired May.... I googled online and said that expired test strips can cause elevated readings....
also babys hearbeat was 130, usually has been in 150's before I started gd diet.
I have the appt monday with winthrop prenatal, and another growth sono then too, so maybe my numbers will start looking better by then.... arghhh.
it does look like insulin may be safer, but not used if its a small amount needed.
