Gender roles in society....
I'm working on a paper for school and need some feedback...
What do you think movies today tell us about being a man or women in society?
Also - do you think if gender roles were reversed that movies would be different (ex - if women were the breadwinners do you think we would see that reflected in movies)?

i did something similar - my paper was gender roles in 21st century novels.
honestly, i love the topic.
movies today tell us that women have to be beautiful and THIN to be successful
and yes, if roles were different (women = breadwinner), i think movies would be different.
movies reflect society pretty well.

I think if attempting to figure out our society based soley on movies, an anthropologist would see a lot of sappy, flaky women who are not fulfilled with their lives without a man. Women can have a successful career but ultimately it's about finding "the one".
I think eventually we'll see more career women in movies because there are more career women. However, it's doubtful that a movie based on careers would be a box office hit.

i think i have to disagree....
i really don't think that movies portray any reality to our society...
I think actually think that there are more STRONG women leaders and breadwinners in the movies/tv actually....as compared to "real life".
So i don't think that if our roles were "reversed" any more than they already are....that movies would relfect anything differently...

it is a very interesting topic.. my whole point is that money equals power and influence and since hollywood knows it they cater more to men

Interesting theory. I actually think that the demographic for attending/watching movies is more female than male.

yes i agree....
i really think that the movie makeers and shakers have to appeal to the audience and not the powers money and the men that hold it...
they gotta make their money....
