Re: genetic counseling?
I wanted to go before getting pregnant and it didnt work out that way. I was about 3-4 weeks pregnant. They explained to me and another girl there about all the different genetic diseases that jewish people are known to carry and how the whole genetics thing works - like if I am a carrier but dh is not and the chances of our child having a disease, etc.. After the explanation they took my blood and I guess it took 2 weeks to hear back the good news that I am not a carrier of any of the genetic diseases. If I was, they would have had dh come and get tested himself. If he was not a carrier then most likely we woud have been fine. If he was a carrier of the same things I was then they would have scheduled meetings with us to help us make the crucial decisions Thank G-d didnt come to this. Good Luck to your friend.

Re: genetic counseling?
I did a lot of genetic testing. It involved a very long interview about family history and then a whole lot of blood tests.
