Genetic Counseling
What can I expect to happen?
Is this something DH should come with me?
EDIT:
I should have said Genetic Counseling, not genetic testing.
At my 12 wk appointment I had a finger prick blood test and ultrascreen. I'm getting sent to Madonna to see a genetic counselor.

Genetic Testing
I did a genetic carrier screen via blood test in my first trimester. The test was associated with the makers of the Panorma test.I think it screened for 150 plus genetic disorders. I tested positive for two disorders. At that point, dh came back and got his blood tested. Thankfully he was negative.

Genetic Testing
I went around 11 weeks to the genetic dept at North Shore at my doctors referral. Do came with me and I'm glad he did. She spoke to us for about a half hour on the genetic tests, abnormalities, etc etc. then I gave blood. Took about 10 days for the results.

I went after my quad screening came back with a high chance for Downs. I would bring your DH because they ask questions about both family history. They discussed an amnio with me and I'm pretty sure more blood was drawn.

I went at 12 weeks for the panorama testing and Nuchal translucency test. Both were normal.

Just remembering, def bring dh bc they ask a lot of genetic history questions to see what to test for specially in addition to regular testing.

DH and I both ended up having genetic testing done, but we had a MC before this pregnancy so that was mostly the reason. To my recollection, it was just a blood test.

DH never came with me for any of the "advanced Maternal age" tests....generic testing, genetic counseling, etc. Only for the 16 week scan. But if your meeting with a genetic counselor get a detailed family history from DH if he isn't coming with you. I wasn't sure how to answer a lot of the questions.
We didn't have to do the genetic blood tests though because the infertility clinic did that before IVF. Otherwise they would have needed blood from him.

My "genetic counseling" was mostly just phone calls back and forth.

I did mine at Madonna. Like I said you don't need him if you get all the info from him before you go. His nationality, family history, etc.
Get yours too. I didn't know what my Uncle died from as a kid when I went, I wish I had because it was a genetic issue that runs through Italian families. As it turns out its not an issue though because I'm only half Italian and DH has 0 Italian.

I did my counseling session without DH. Thankfully, I know his family's medical history pretty well.
I just debriefed DH when I got home. It was all very overwhelming for him as he tends to worry…..I work in the field so it was easy for me to grasp and interpret for him.

My OB said he doesn't have to come - I told him to get me a list of his family history.
