Genetic Testing
Two close friends use Contemporary Woman Care in Island. .. 1 is 36 and 14 weeks pregnant and the other 26 and 30 weeks along. They both had the maternit21 test at 12 weeks and both were told it was standard practice in their office now to do the test for every patient at 12 weeks no matter what their age and health history is. I also go there. They just told me yesterday they only do the test if you're over 35 or are high risk. What are other offices doing? Anyone else use this group? Did you have it?

Genetic Testing
My doctor never offered or mentioned either the Materniti21 or the Panorama. I am 28.

Genetic Testing
The standard is changing to offering genetic testing to everyone. How much insurance pays is up to your carrier. If you are under 35, I would call the insurance company and ask what they cover.

Genetic Testing
I just asked both my friends about what was covered and the 26 year old said she didn't pay a cent. My other friend, who is 36, received a bill for thousands of dollars and called to complain and they adjusted it to $250

Re: Genetic Testing
I think it depends on the doctor. Since I am under 35 I was never offered any of those tests but my cousin's doctor did (and she is under 35 too). I would call and check w/ your insurance first to see if it's covered.

Re: Genetic Testing
My doctor told me to check with my insurance to see if it was covered but also said even if it wasn't, the out of pocket could be as low as $130. I am under 35 and my insurance only covers if you are over 35 or have another higher risk reason for the testing. I just did the NT Scan and associated blood tests.

Re: Genetic Testing
Only when I was over 35 when I delivered. Otherwise, my insurance covered nothing...and the price of the test was over $12k.

Re: Genetic Testing
This wasn't offered to me- I'm 29 and 13 weeks along. I just had my NT scan today and followed up with my OB and they didn't even take blood since the place where I did my NT scan took blood with the finger prick test.

I'm pretty sure mine would be the same, I'm also going to be 35 when I deliver so it was covered. None of my friends had the test when they've had their babies in the last few years but from what it looks like, it really depends on the doctor and the circumstances.
