Getting in-dash navigation installed on a car (not a new car)
This question comes from my DH
We just purchased a 2006 Jeep Cherokee. Unfortunately, the car does not have in-dash navigation installed, it was a trade-off we had to make since the ones that did usually had outrageous mileage.
We'd like to look into having in-dash navigation installed (and hopefully a back-up camera too). I believe reading somewhere that it can be done.
Anyone have any experience with this? How much was it? Most importantly, where did you have it done?
Thx!

Can get one from Crutchfield and DIY
or Best Buy has a decent selection or try any local shop that does car alarms, remote starters, etc.
Pioneer makes a nice unit.
You can spend anywhere from $400 to over a thousand depending on features

Personally, I would find out first if you will get updated maps for free or if you have to pay to have the maps updated. I know the one in our car needs to be updated, but we would need to spend a couple hundred dollard for the CD that has updated maps and I refuse to spend that when I have navigation in my phone.
Just something to look into.

In our dodge caravan sxt I looked into having the dvd installed (its actually kind of set up for it already because we have the front screen and we have the flip down overhead console down the middle of the van in the back as well if that makes sense). I was told by the dealership that they would have to replace the whole unit to install one and that it would be over 6k

You can swap out your existing radio easily for the factory navigation. I would go that route. With Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler, its REAL easy.

I believe this is the radio you need. You would have paid $1500 if you got it with the jeep new.
I like keeping the factory navigation. Aftermarket navigation from crutchfield or any other store is a thief magnet.

Lame answer by the dealership. These navigations are readily available on ebay in the 400-800 price range. The swap is easy too... plug and play literally.
