Getting new carseats after car accident?
My MIL was in a recent accident & had DS carseat in the car. They already had their car fixed but the insurance company is denying them the reimbursement of the carseat.
Is there something that they can show to them to show that they are required?

What kind of seat? All seats, except Britrax, have it in the manual to replace after any collision, and does not differentiate between occupied or unoccupied. You can send a copy of the manual page or check the website.
Britax follows NHTSA guidelines for replacement.
NHTSA recommends that child safety seats be replaced following a moderate or severe crash in order to ensure a continued high level of crash protection for child passengers.
NHTSA recommends that child safety seats do not automatically need to be replaced following a minor crash.
Minor crashes are those that meet ALL of the following criteria: The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site;
The vehicle door nearest the safety seat was undamaged;
There were no injuries to any of the vehicle occupants;
The air bags (if present) did not deploy; AND
There is no visible damage to the safety seat
If MIL was not at fault, and the insurance still refuses to replace, threaten to take their driver to small claims for reimbursement. Also, car seats are considered to be a permanently installed fixture (like an installed radio or GPS would be) although many insurers try to stuff them under "personal property".

I will ask my MIL if she has the manual. I know it is not a Britax

If you know the seat brand, it can be found online in most cases.
