Getting insurance money for your vehicle lost to Sandy
So if Im understanding this correctly... my brother lost his truck in Long Beach. It was destroyed and then towed away and the insurance company said the wont release any funds to him until he shows his title but his title was destroyed/lost as well. DMV said a new title could take up to EIGHT WEEKS! Is there a way to speed this up? Thats just no right.

There is an online form on the DMV website for title replacement. Just go to the website and do a search. I think all you need is the license plate number. I paid express shipping and had it the next day. HTH

Thanks. I was hoping my mom heard wrong. Maybe she heard 8 days and told me 8 weeks.

Mine took at least 8 weeks to receive. But I did it at DMV not on line. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Hopefully they will doing something quicker for anyone effected by Sandy.

Re: Getting insurance money for your vehicle lost to Sandy
I have heard of a few people that were able to rent a car in the meantime.
Not sure though if they are paying out of pocket for this or not.
If it was a necessity, and you know the ins. covers a rental, I'd lay out the cash and keep the receipts.
Honestly, that is what most people are doing with the necessities.
We did that with our new boiler and fortunately, FEMA came through yesterday.
I know people don't like to hear that, and some truly can't afford it, but getting money is a process, unfortunately.

He can walk into DMV and obtain a duplicate title (for a fee)
