I was told four months in North Hempstead, but they have supposedly gotten better, so maybe not so long anymore.

Depends on if you need variances. It took I think one year and 2 days to get my permits because of all the variances....

in huntington it took 1 month for the building permit - without any variances and once we got that we put in for our variance and that took two months - we could do all work except the part that needed the variance

It took about 3 months to get the permits from when we originally filed with the town (but, we also did it during the winter where they had fewer zoning board meetings so it took longer).

You might need health department permit also, if you are building anything it might construe as a fifth bedroom. I'm having to do that.

We needed a variance and it took about 4 months. We are town of North Hempstead but Village of Flower Hill. I think that if you aren't applying for a variance it is usually a lot quicker.
