Getting really annoyed with this whole not showing thing.. (long)
So, this is bothering me for a variety of reasons.
1- When I see people who I either haven't seen in a while, or who haven't seen me yet-- I see them automatically look at my belly, and I feel all that is there is more of "me", not baby. I feel like I have to clarify that yes, I have gained weight, but still not really showing. Makes me self-conscious. Happens with strangers as well.
2- I am still having a hard time BELIEVING I am pregnant, and the lack of belly is not helping. I guess I feel a little detached from everything, because there have not been that many changes, except of course that pesky weight gain. It's a bit of a struggle for me.
3- I am having total body issues because I don't have the belly yet. I am just so unhappy with how I look right now. I weigh myself every day and I am just gaining this weight inexplicably and nothing to show for it, except for my thighs and hips.
Sorry for the pity party, but after seeing a bunch of people yesterday and just everything adding up-- this is REALLY starting to bum me out.

Re: Getting really annoyed with this whole not showing thing.. (long)
I hear ya. I'm on the plus side, so I already started with a belly, so now people are just staring at my fat waiting for it to morph into a baby belly. Granted, it has actually done that now, b/c I really can't wear my own clothes now unless I have a bella band on. So, now I feel more PG, but some people say I'm not showing yet. I'm in maternity jeans, with my gut sticking out, and I'm now showing....greeaattt.

I know, I felt the same way up until about week 20/ 21....it lookedl like I gained weight in my stomach. I would wear tigher shirts to "show it" but it really looked like this was my problem area....lol....but now my stomach is definitely bigger and the shape is baby.....you'll get there....

Same here. I'm 17 Weeks today, and still just have belly fat, I haven't really gained much weight but my regular clothes don't fit. My SIL is also 17 Weeks and has a nice baby belly already showing (although this is her 3rd and my 1st). I just want to start showing already and not just look fat.

I think the first thing you need to do is STOP weighing yourself- why torture yourself?

you seriously sound like me, and I hated the way I looked and honestly am still having issues, I've always had a mental thing about my weight and my body, I've never been heavy, but always had issues with my body, and the first place for me to gaing weight are my thighs and hips..I'm sure you look completely fine (don't roll your eyes, I mean it) but it is hard to just see the numbers going up and not seeing it on you, I'm so worried about how I'm going to lose it all afterwards, but I try not to think about it all the time....everyone is telling me you can't see the weight on me, but I FEEL IT and see it...its rough, and honestly I wish I had more advice for you, bc I'm struggling with this too!!!

Re: Getting really annoyed with this whole not showing thing.. (long)
thanks-- it's not really JUST the weight...
But, the lack of belly is really making it hard for me to connect with the baby. Does that make sense to anyone else?

The baby will start kicking soon and that will help tremedously.

This makes COMPLETE sense to me. I also feel a disconnect in the same way. I'm in the same boat as you. Not showing yet really, naked I guess I do, but not in clothes. Mind you I can't button my pants anymore, but it's more of an allover waist thickening rather than an full blown belly protrusion. That coupled with the fact that aside from random cramps here and there, I don't feel a thing, nothing. I'm 16 weeks so i know this is all ok, but seeing pics on here is hard when you see so many obvious adorable baby bellies and I feel likeI just have fat. The thing that troubles me is that I was on the thinner side to begin with and everyone was telling me "oh you'll def. show quicker because you're thin". Yeah...not so much. We have our 16 wk/triple screen appt on Wed, so maybe seeing/hearing the baby again will spark the feelings back up for me again.

I agree, once you feel the baby you'll feel a lot better.
On another note, I have carried small my whole pregnancy. At times it definately bothered me but I just went with the flow. Now I will be 36 weeks and I was at a BBQ yesterday where this woman came up to me and was like- are you pregnant? So I said yes and she goes- oh 2-3 months?? I'm like, no- going into my NINTH!! So I can't promise you it will get better but I feel that the less I put on now the less I will have to lose later (and hopefully not stretch my belly out too much ).

It totally makes sense. I have gotten a little bloated and still don't feel that "connection." I think a lot of times that comes when the kicking starts. But in terms of your belly...it'll come eventually!!

I can totally understand, I didn't start showing until about 20 weeks, one day I just woke up and it was there.. Its frustrating to see the lbs coming on and not seeing a difference but I promise you'll get your baby bump soon, and all these feelings your having now will be in the past!

ditto, you're stressing yourself over this way to much. Its gonna happen. You started out super duper skinny and very physically concious of your body (pre-pregnancy), so eventually your baby belly will come. If you want to feel more preggo, I suggest you start wearing maternity clothing. Even if you don't have to, it will trick you into feeling more preggo (trust me). Lay off the scale PLEASE and start enjoying this pregnancy ASAP!! JMO

i feel like it took me a while to start showing also.
Try wearing cute pregnancy shirts that say "knocked up" or "baby" with an arrow to your belly. this way it will let people know you are pregnant. That made me feel better

I know how you feel. It will come. I was heavy to begin with so I knew it would take longer but just now at 29 weeks am I starting to feel like I have a cute baby belly. I feel sad that strangers don't ask if I'm preggo bc they prob just assume I'm extra fat but at least I don't get the rude comments either.
I agree about the maternity clothes - I specifically have been looking for things that emphasize my bump. Empire waists are my friend!
You will also feel more of a connection once you feel the movement - promise!
Feel good!

Re: Getting really annoyed with this whole not showing thing.. (long)
I totally get where you are coming from. I am due 2 days before you and I am still not really showing at all. I saw a bunch of friends this weekend and I kept getting comments like - wow, you don't even look pregnant and Oh, I forgot that you were pregnant.
This is my second, so I definitely expected to show a LOT sooner. I know that i definitely did with DD. I am at the point now where my regular clothes don't fit, but the maternity just looks too big and dumpy.
I would actually be worried that something was wrong, but I have been feeling the baby kicking since 14 weeks, so that does make me feel a little bit better. I still don't really feel pregnant though - it's like I keep forgetting.

I was feeling this way too-- I have not felt the baby kick-- or, haven't felt anything that I can definitively say is the baby. But, I went to the doc last week and they found a "good, strong heartbeat" right away.
As for maternity clothes-- I have a few things, that really are just too big. And when I go into stores, I kinda feel stupid being there since I don't really have the belly to fit into the clothes.

Re: Getting really annoyed with this whole not showing thing.. (long)
I can understand. I was in pretty good shape with G and it took me a while to show. It looked like I had a big lunch until about 18 weeks or so, although I was in some maternity before then.
This PG I am huge from not losing the baby weight from G, and although I see the baby bump, in most clothes I just look fat.
BUT then I look at how I looked at 24, 26, 28, even up to 32 weeks and I think, "dang I was a cute PG lady!"

I am feeling teh same way. I know the baby is doing fine but the lack of belly always puts that doubt in my mind. I rub my belly and i just want to connect and feel this bundle of joy. No clothes fit and I have even been compared by people at work to another girl who is a week behind me and has a nice round belly. WE should be happy we are carrying small at this point. At least we can still see our toes and shave
