Getting rid of the binky?

DS turned 2 in September. I had gotten rid of it when he was abotu 12 months old for 2 months, buit DS got a terrible ear infection from his teeth coming in and I gave it back to him. Big mistake! Last time I did it cold turkey but he didn't really realize it was gone. Now, he's very attached to it. Do I try cutting it? Do I take it cold turkey? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Re: Getting rid of the binky?

I cut a hole in it when I took it away at about 20 months. Every few days I cut it a little more, and with a 2 weeks it was gone. I had cut the whole nipple off, but my DS just wanted to sleep holding the plastic in his hand. That took another couple of weeks to go away, but I didn't care about that part, because he only wanted to hold it for security. Good luck.

Re: Getting rid of the binky?

We got rid it of it a couple of weeks ago, right before their 2nd birthday. We did it cold turkey. The first night DD cried for 3.5 hours, which was really hard, and DS didn't seem affected at all.
The next night was barely anything, by 3-4 days later they didn't really care anymore. They'll still ask for it every once in awhile, but I tell them we gave it to the baby.

Re: Getting rid of the binky?

For DS, he was 2 1/2 and we cut the tip off a little each day. He finally couldn't grasp it anymore and just gave up. He did hold it for a couple of nights, but then gave up on that too.

Re: Getting rid of the binky?

I did it cold turkey when DS was 22 months. The first nap/bedtime was rough, but it was the best thing we ever did. It had become such a crutch for him and he wanted it ALL the time. I thought it was going to be horrible, but it really wasnt bad at all.
