Getting the cheapest rental car? Sites? Codes?
Is it cheaper to go to the rental car websites, or other travel sites (expedia, orbitz, kayak, etc.?)
Is there a good source for discount codes?
Does any of this change if I'm looking for a one-way rental? 
I'm supposed to fly from Baltimore to New Orleans this Saturday to catch a cruise, but the weather has me nervous... we may consider driving one way and I'm looking for the best rental car deal.

Try Priceline - I use them for car rentals since a car is a car (not like a hotel or trying to get a good flight time).
Also, check AAA for discounts. You can also get some deals if you sign up for the frequent renters programs.
