Brinkley

I wanted to name him after something in Forrest Gump, one of my favorite movies. DH overruled me. So instead we chose the name of Tom Hanks dog in "You've Got Mail" who was a Golden Retriever. DH and I met over the internet too and we've eaten in two of the restaurants from the movie. So it fits, and it's different.

Labrador Retriever (chocolate / English)

Year and a half old

He's so friendly and docile. He's well behaved (most of the time), smart and funny. He brings out the best in people!

The shedding ooooooh the shedding. Lots of hair everywhere. Also, he has a touchy stomach and we've had to make changes to his diet to acclimate. Small prices to pay.

People tell me that:

He's very shiny (yes, he is most of the time. We add oil to his food for his dry skin)
Chocolate Labs are crazy (lies. Absolutely NO correlation of Lab color to temperament)
He's young and still has time to grow (probably not. English Labs tend to be stockier. He fits the 'breed standard' and probably won't be growing anymore)
His breath smells (true. We feed him powdered garlic as an alternative to Frontline)
He licks too much (he's not obsessive but yes, he does lick a lot. He considers it affection. I see nothing wrong with it.)

Something unique... Brinkley is afraid of stairs.

Zoey

She had this name when we found her at Little Shelter and it fit her perfectly, so we kept it.

Rottweiler - actually a Cupcake Rottie - she's small - 65 lbs.
8 years old in July - approximately - we adopted her as an adult and her age was estimated to be between 2-3 years old.

Great:

Zoey has the sweetest diposition you have ever met on a dog. She is gentle and kind and only ever wants to be loved. I think part of it comes from being a rescue, that had a hard life before her rescue, it's almost like she is grateful for being rescued.

She is funny and cute and has the most contagious smile you have ever seen

Not so great -

Actually, nothing really. DH and I laugh and call her the perfect dog. The only thing that makes us laugh though is that she definitely knows how to work "the crowd" when there is food around, making a pitiful face, we call it "I was on death row in a shelter and they were gonna kill me, you should give me a cookie" look. (She was rescued from a kill shelter by LIttle Shelter before we got her).


I get great comments about her all the time, the most common one is from people who have an idea about the stereotypical Rottie and she is nothing like that. They are always surprised at how gentle she is and sometimes almost timid. Everyone loves her when they meet her.

Something unique - she still has her tail - they never cut it. When she gets happy, instead of back and forth it goes around and around..DH calls her propeller butt.

-Breed/type: Shea is a Lab/Pit mix around 70lbs!

She LOVES to go for walks, and now car rides, which she used to hate!!
if you give her a plastic bottle she will never give it back!! haha
her toys are her favorite, any tennis ball or something she can destroy!!
Shea loves her treats too!


-Not-so-great things about them:
well of course there is the shedding.. her black hair is all over the place!!
and she loves to eat socks.. and used ones! lol

we always get comments about her coat.. she is so soft and people say she is a beautiful dog.. that they defintiely see Pitbull in her! and yes we do!!

Izzy (long haired kitty)

Got him from my vet
He was 2 lbs of fluff when we got him with big blue eyes and very scared. Now he is over 12 lbs- a year old and the biggest mush. He loves cuddling but doesn't like kisses on his head. Loves licking my hands and face after I moisturize (crazy kitty) and has the biggest mouth.

His sister is Bella
She is a DSH kitty that is so mischievous. She has lines on her head that look like an M so we say M is for meow or mischievous. She gets into everything and tortures her brother.
She will flirt with you if she wants something and she's daddy's girl.

We struggled with this for a bit but we decided on Kasey because it's the K from Kevin and the C from Cindy coming together like KC, but we spell it out.

Black labrador retreiver

-Great things about them
She loves everyone is super friendly, I don't think there's an aggressive bone in her body.

-Not-so-great things about them
She thinks too much. Sometimes she doesn't listen to us so well because she thinks she knows better. She's at that adolescent age and trying to see what she can get away with.

-Do you get comments about them?
Yes

What are they?
Well a lot of people thinks she's a boy because she's big for a girl, despite the purple collar around her neck. But for the most part we hear how good looking she is; people love the white patch on her chest.

-Something unique about their personality
She has webbed feet but hates the water. She refuses to go out if it's raining too hard. She also won't go into the pool; such a suprise bc we thought she'd love it!!

Origin of their name
Named after Lana Turner...one of my favorite actresses.

Breed/type
We think (as does our vet) that she's a Pitbull/Lab Mix

Age
She'll be two years old sometime in July.

Great things about them
She is the sweetest, most affectionate dog that I have ever met. She'll "kiss" perfect strangers!

Not-so-great things about them
She is still spiteful at times...I can't even count how many DVDs of ours that she has destroyed. She also has allergies and a sensitive stomach.

Do you get comments about them?
Yes

What are they?
People are always asking "Is that a Pitbull?!" People also comment about her beautiful fur and how pretty they think she is.

-Something unique about their personality
Not sure if this is unique, but she loves to cuddle on the couch with me at night when DH and I are watching TV...I adore this!

Harley

Origin of their name
Not sure...we rescued him and this was the name he had already. We kept it because he responds to it.

Breed/type
Wire-haired dachshund.

Age
Our vet thinks he's about two years old.

Great things about them
He's a total lap dog...he takes turns sitting in my or DH's lap and would do that all day long if we were home!

Not-so-great things about them
He's very shy around strangers (we think he may have been abused), so it takes him a long time to get used to new people.

Do you get comments about them?
Yes

What are they?
People usually think he's a mixed breed because they don't know that dachshunds come in a wire-haired version.

As I mentioned, he's very shy around new people, but he had no fear of other dogs...he "fights" with Lana (they play fight) and she's twice his size!

-Origin of their name: We hemmed and hawed over what to name him. DH is from upstate and grew up on Cooper Ave. There you have it.

-Breed/type: Boston Terrier

-Age: He will be 6 in August.

-Great things about them: As he gets older he's becoming very protective. He's letting out his inner guard dog. He's always so excited to see us (I get home after DH and we live on the 2nd floor so he's always waiting for me at the top of the stairs when I get home). He's so cuddley... and the best nuzzler.

-Not-so-great things about them:
He has tons of health issues (all of which are totally under control at the moment). He likes to chew blankets and pillows. No matter what we try, we cannot break him of this habit.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they?
People always comment on how long his legs are and how high he can jump. And of course how cute he is...

-Something unique about their personality.
He snorts like a pig.
He must have the 3 same toys with him at bed time otherwise he never really settles down.
He totally knows what behavoir warrents a treat.
He's a complete and total sun worshiper. He will find the smallest little sliver of sun and lay in it.

-Great things about them She is friendly, loves children, loves to play and give kisses. She is overall the best little girl I could possibly have.

-Not-so-great things about them---SHeds a lot but I wouldn't trade her for the world.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they? ---Everyone thinks she is so cute. I also get told that she is very spoiled.

-Something unique about their personality--- She totally talks to me. Everyday when I come home from work and I say hello to her she talks to me. She will only do that when I am home alone though.

-Origin of their name: I thought we were naming him after the Roman Brutus who betrayed Cesar. DH thought we were naming him after Popeye's nemesis and had never heard of the OTHER Brutus LOL We also thought of Baxter from Anchorman.

Where do I start? Even NON animal lovers tell us how lucky we are to have such a great dog. He is SO friendly and wonderful. He seriously just wants to be loved and will plop himself on whoever will have him and love him. When we come home he jumps 100 feet into the air. He lets our nieces and nephews poke him in the eye, pull his tail and just torture him with no reaction but if WE try to take a toy away he will growl like crazy and play tug of war with us. He can unfold and hide under any blanket. He sleeps with his head on the pillow.

-Not-so-great things about them: His farts are deadly. He is petrified of thunder and fireworks. He gets anxiety sometimes - when we took him to Florida he would cry/howl if we were BOTH not standing next to him! LOL

-Do you get comments about them? All the time, people can't believe that he is a BT and people absolutely love his personality

-Something unique about their personality: Ummm he is just so loving. We are just so blessed and we are scared if we get another dog we wont be as lucky! LOL

-Breed/type: We think he is possibly part Finnish Lapphund, but there are definitely some other breeds in there!

-Age: Almost 2

-Great things about them: Snuggler, Super cute, My shadow, Full of love, "Social butterfly"

-Not-so-great things about them: Scaredy dog! When we play frisbee/ball, he wants it to be "chase Teemu" instead of bringing it back! He likes to shove his toys under the tv stand and then act like they got under there 'accidently' so I have to come and get them for him! (Goofball!). Hilarious!

-Do you get comments about them? What are they? That he is a good looking fellow!

-Something unique about their personality - he is just a sweetie pie!




-Name: Olli

-Origin of their name: Name after Finnish Hockey player Olli Jokinen

-Breed/type: Finnish Lapphund

-Age: 6 months

-Great things about them: Happy little guy, so cute, also a cuddler, SO Brave (total opposite of Teemu!)

-Not-so-great things about them: We are waiting till we move to do a training class, so his heel is pretty bad at this point! Very weak bladder (hopefully it will get stronger as he grows), barker (his breed is known for this), he is teething so he chews everything up!

-Do you get comments about them? That he is unique looking, and that him and Teemu are a cute little duo!

-Something unique about their personality - as soon as he sees me coming, he just flops over for a belly rub!




-Name: Jack

-Origin of their name: Nothing in particular. We were in a LOST phase, so he was either going to be Jack or Hurley. We thought Jack was cuter.

-Breed/type: Domestic Medium hair mix

-Age: 2

-Great things about them: Loves to be pet, loves to play

-Not-so-great things about them: For some reason his favorite time to be pet is when DH or I are in the officed working! He doesn't like the dogs!

-Do you get comments about them? That he is antisocial because he hides whenever we have visitors

-Something unique about their personality - his favorite thing is watching me clean his litter!




-Name: Anabelle

-Origin of their name: She was an adorable kitten so I wanted an adorable name. It was either going to be Anabelle or Penelope.

-Breed/type: Domestic Medium hair mix/Calico

-Age: 1

-Great things about them: Gets along with all the pets and is best buddies with Teemu. Loves to be where the action is.

-Not-so-great things about them: Hates being pet or snuggled.

-Do you get comments about them? That she is a pretty kitty!

-Something unique about their personality - always wants to be with people but doesn't want to be pet!

-Name - Sara

-Origin of their name - After she came off the farm (Sara never raced - she came straight from the greyhound farm) she stayed at a vet to get her shots and get fixed. The vet techs names her Sara after the song - When Sara Smiles - because she's a smiler! It's scary if you don't know she's happy b/c it looks like she's growling but she's not. It's a smile!! We have yet to get a picture of it because she's usually so happy and won't stay still when she smiles.

-Breed/type - greyhound

-Age - 8

-Great things about them - everything. She's just a great dog. So loving and has a wonderful personality

-Not-so-great things about them - She pees in our bed if we leave her there alone. Just on DH's side though.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they? So many comments - usually about her being a race dog. People are really curious about that. She's also very soft.

-Something unique about their personality - she's very vocal which is unusual for a greyhound. I swear, she has conversations with us.



-Name - Hailey

-Origin of their name - Not sure. She was a bounceback from another home and they had named her Hailey. Her racing name was PB Holly.

-Breed/type - Greyhound

-Age - 9

-Great things about them - She's a snuggler and so very, very sweet.

-Not-so-great things about them - She's storm-phobic. I feel bad for her but it's hard on me when we get those middle of the night thunderstorms.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they? - same as Sara regarding the breed. Also that she's so loveable. She'll just fall at someone's feet and expect to be petted.

-Something unique about their personality - she thinks she's a lapdog!!! a 70 pound lapdog!



-Name - Jeter

-Origin of their name - Named after Derek of course!!!

-Breed/type - Siamese mix

-Age - 5

-Great things about them - He's a mush ball. He's gotten really mushy since Figaro left us. He'll come and sit with me or sleep with me. I love it.

-Not-so-great things about them - He wakes me up at 5am every day by licking my face!!!

-Do you get comments about them? What are they? - He's very handsome.

-Something unique about their personality - He's a talker too. Very vocal. Must be the siamese in him!

Their names are Bella & Abbey

I always wanted a pug named Bella since I'm little and finally got one for my wedding present 7 yrs. ago. I changed Abbey's name several times, first her name was Emmy and then something else and one day I just looked at her and said she looks like an Abbey, so it stuck.

Both Pugs

Bella: 7 yrs. old Abbey: 3 yrs. old

Love:
Bella is such a mama's girl she goes where ever I go and loves to sleep in our bed and cuddle, she is the more affectionate pug. She knows when I'm upset and just knows how to make me feel better. Abbey is more adventurous and very playful. She loves to play w/ her bones and loves to play with other animals and children. She has no fear in the world and I think she is seriously the happiest animal on the face of this earth. Nothing bothers this dog, she is always wagging her little tail.

Hate:
The shedding is crazy. Ugh.. I have to clean my floors everyday, but its worth it because I don't know what I would do without my babies.

People tell me:

That Bella is so precious and I should of put her in doggy modeling. She is the best behaved dog they ever saw.

They tell me that Abbey is too wild and crazy, but has a adorable personality.

Something unique:

Bella: She hates when I sneeze... she starts barking like crazy for some reason. LOL!

Abbey: When she walks her whole backside moves with her, like she is shaking her butt. It's very cute.

-Great things about them

he is so lovable, and funny - he loved to play tag and stretch up on the walls to sharpen his nails even though he is declawed he is also very smart, he knows how to sit on command. he catches the crickets and bugs that get into our house and he is so, so patient with DS who is nine months old and very grabby.



-Not-so-great things about them

his fur gets over EVERYTHING. and no matter how much we brush him he sheds like crazy. plus he whines

my sisters and i call him psycho-kitty because he likes to race around the house and bounce off the furniture - and no, he does not get ANY catnip

he does not like to eat treats unless you throw them to him and he can bat them out of the air.

unfortunately he does the same thing with the food in his food bowl - he scoops it out with his paws and chases it around the room.

He acts so much like a child and always wants attention from his mommy! Plus his obsession with water, and what things look like in water (he puts everything in there like hairbands, plastic bags, his ball) and then plays with it!

-He is very smart and picks up on things quickly
-agression issues we have had to deal with in the past. He has come a long way. However it is frustrating that he is usually scared of other dogs when we bring him to the dog park

-little kids always love to pet him b/c he looks and is so soft!

-This might not be unique but I love that he stays in the bedroom until both me and DH wake up in the morning. Even if DH gets up with DD first, he stays in there till I wake up too.

notice how both my animals love the baby's stuff. Bella used to go in there before Katie was born but has since stopped now that Katie goes in there.

-Origin of their name we got them around new yrs and DH loves the honeymooners so thats where trixie came from and ali similar to alice and misty we just liked the name

-Breed/type they were born in my BIL backyard so they are mutts lol

-Age 1 1/2 yrs old

-Great things about them
they are just good cats they never bite scratch or ruin anything in the house they only use their scratching post and kitty tower

-Not-so-great things about them
they dont listen about going on the counter and dining room table and even when i yell it takes awhile for them to not jump again

everyone who comes over our apt who doesnt like cats ends up loving them and comments how sweet they are and how people friendly they are

they are very vocal if u talk to them they answer back with meow's if you call them they come running like a dog does and they crave attn

Her name was Roxy when we adopted her, but we knew at least 3 other "Roxies" so we wanted to change her name to something that sounded similar. Since Weimies are called Grey Ghosts - we thought Misty would be appropriate

Weimaraner

-Age
She'll be 5 in September

-Great things about them
She's super snuggly and loves to sleep with us - she hasn't left my side the whole time I've been on bedrest.
She loves running through the woods - Her "joie de vie" keeps a smile on my face.

-Not-so-great things about them
They have terrible seperation anxiety - when I was at my mother's for a few weeks, she was going to the bathroom in the house daily.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they?
Constantly - That she's such a pretty dog and her eyes are kind of freaky. Also, people want to pet her and she doesn't really care about that so we always get "She's not overly friendly is she?"

-Something unique about their personality
I think Misty is pretty much the typical Weimie - but I have to say that I never expected a dog that loves to be with us the way she does. She always needs to be touching one of us (usually me) in some way or another.

He's a great cat...loves to play even at his "advanced age".

-Not-so-great things about them
He's like an alarm clock when it comes time to eat...no matter what day of the week - he wants breakfast at 6 a.m.

-Do you get comments about them? What are they?
Yup...that he's so much more friendly after his 3-day vet visit...

-Something unique about their personality
He really does love to play - string, feathers, doesn't matter what.
And, even though he's been a house cat (never outside) for his whole life, he still tries to sneak out EVERY time we open a door.

-Origin of their name - She is Sandy brown in color

-Breed/type - Mini italian greyhound (or whippit - not sure) mix

-Age - She turned 5 in March (we got her when she was 5 months old in Aug of 2004)

-Great things about them - She is AMAZING with my dd, very gentle and loving and she loves to cuddle with dh and I

-Not-so-great things about them - Ugh, lately this list is growing - she goes into the garbage, takes food off of the table / counter when we are not looking (and even when we are), hounds dd for food....

only have old pics on here - these are from about 2 years ago, she looks the same though, maybe a few pounds heavier

Pokey

pokey was orginally Cro cat - then crokey...and now Pokey which is very fitting for him- b/c he likes to do the hookey pookey (you'll see)


Persian Male Cat- white with cooper eyes

9 and a half or so I have been told- I would like to think younger
(he was rehomed and his orginally owner lied about his age so I would take him)


Pokey loves to roll around on his back and stick one leg out- it's so funny-

he loves to "kill" his toys as gifts

he lastest obcession is eating grass- I let him out in the back yard

He is a confirmed kitty crack (cat nip) addict



-Not-so-great things about them - if his food bowl gets below 1/2 any time of night- even if he isn't hungry- he will "poke" you in the face until you do something about it

he is only a mush after something bad happens...boarded at the vet or sick


most people comment on his hair cut- I get him groomed to look like a lion- he loves it

and his is very proud when he comes home like that
