Name: Fiona -Origin of their name: we both just liked it and once we said it, it just stuck! -Breed/type: Long hair mini doxie...silver dapple coloring -Age: she is 10 months old! -Great things about them: She is such a love bug, loves to burrow under the blankets and snuggle on the couch with you! Has the most expressive eyes and cocks her head to talk to you Protective of us but warms up to new people quickly.. Great sleeper...goes into her cage every night and sleeps as long as we do..guests over, new setting..no problem!! -Not-so-great things about them: we are working on overall behavior training still since she is a puppy....she is still not fully potty trained...she will pee on the pads but poop off...so i would say stubborn =) -Do you get comments about them? Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
Oh, everyone has such beautiful fur-babies.
My boys:
-Names: Chip, is a chocolate pomeranian and just turned 2 last month
Hunter is a sable pomeraninan and will be 2 in August.
We got both of them from the same breeder. When we went to see her puppies, Chip would not leave our side. She said her dogs always pick their owners and she said this was our dog. He was named by the breeder, as in choloclate chip, but I have a late uncle we called Chip and so I loved the name! I call him Chippy baby.
Our breeder watched Chip when we went away after he turned 1 and when we went to pick him up he had a new best friend- Hunter. She said they never left eachothers side, played all day together, sleep by each others sides. Hunter had a bad hip from some injury when he was a pup so she told us she would let us adopt him with no charge. We wanted Chippy to have someone to be with and they clearly got along so we went for it. He fit right in our family, we love them both so much.
-Great things about them: Chippy is so mushy and loving- he is a full on 100% mommas boy. We have a very special connection. He's a kissing freak- I wake up every morning to a kiss storm, which can get annoying but I also love it. He's very playful, loves catch, playing with big dogs (his best friend is a mastiff). And he's a mute! Barely ever barks, just a little growl now and then to alert.
Hunter is also very affectionate, maybe more so than Chip. He loves to cuddle up in a nook on your body and burrow into you- it's very cute. He's got this great little hop/run thin- he looks like a bunny. He's very protective of me.
-Not-so-great things about them: Chip- Pees on anything! His favorites are the very expensive silk curtains. He's a total boy, so up the leg goes on everything. We try to get him outside as much as possible to avoid it, but it's a problem.
Hunter- he doesn't shut up! Think high pitched screams all day- rah rah rah rah! He's just so little that his bark is the only thing he's got. He's also scarred of a lot of things and pisses when you pick him up, LOL.
People love them when we walk them. Funny thing is our dogs are very small and I'm 6' and my DH is 6'9'' so we look very funny walking them!
I think that's enough if you've read this far!

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name - Sushi -Origin of their name - I couldn' decide on a name when we got her. Later that evenning as we were on our way out and discussing dinner, I said what about Sushi? DH said he wasnt in the mood and I said not to eat but to name the cat! -Breed/type She is a Domestic Medium Hair Tabby -Age - She will be 1 on July 15 -Great things about them - We rescued her from West Babylon Animal Shelter when I was going through a very bad time. I was in the process of getting treatment for an etopic pregnancy and was very sad. We were originally going to get a different kitten (about 5 months old) but the animal worker took us in the back and said we had to look at "her" kitten. Sushi was 8 weeks old and was less than a pound. When we took her to the vet, we were told that she was FIV+ and while we could take her back to the shelter, she would likely be "destroyed." The vet said there was also the possibility that she had just gotten the antibodies from her mother and that she may not actually be infected. I knew that there was no way I could send her back. At 6 months we had her retested and she tested negative. She really is my joy. She knows when I am feeling sad and we have a great bond. I am really the only one she will let hold her and when i am laying on the couch she comes over and burows in the crook of my arm and falls asleep.
-Not-so-great things about them:
She only has two modes: Play and Sleep If she wants to play with you and you ignore her "calm" hints, she will nibble on your ankle. There is no rhyme or reason to her toilet paper and paper towel shreding attacks. -Do you get comments about them? What are they? That she is very pretty! Although I find she is not very "pretty" in pictures since she typcially squints at the flash and then she looks mean! -Something unique about their personality
She plays fetch but only with her favorite toys which are crumpled up pieces of receipts. She also cries when anyone sneezes around her.

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name Phoebe and Holden
-Origin of their name The Catcher in the Rye is my favourite book and Phoebe and Holden are brother and sister in the book.
-Breed/type Both Domestic Shorthairs. Phoebe is the tortoiseshell one and Holden is the black and white one.
-Age Phoebe is 3 1/2 and Holden is almost 3.
-Great things about them They are both very sweet cats and sleep with us every night. One cat matches downstairs and the other matches upstairs.
Holden is especially playful and is very loyal. He is very easy going and all around good cat.
Phoebe loves people and whenever people come over she has to sit on someone's lap. We call her our lapslut!
-Not-so-great things about them Phoebe pees on rugs because she prefers the texture. We have to keep the litterbox clean because she is especially picky. She is also extremely sensitive and gets depressed if we work too much during the week. If she doesn't get a certain amount of time she will let us know she is unhappy.
Holden is generally a good cat, he really doesn't do anything wrong. When he does happy feet it must be in my hair and sometimes this is rather painful on my scalp.
-Do you get comments about them? What are they?
Everyone says Phoebe is the sweetest cat and Holden is a weirdo because he is shy around other people.
-Something unique about their personality
Holden can open doors and is terrified of the vacuum cleaner. He even hisses at it when it is not on and is just sitting on the floor.
Phoebe knows how to get exactly what she wants. If there is no food in her bowl, she does especially annoying things to annoy us (not sure if this is unique or a not so good thing). She has real "tortitude" She can't catch a bug to save her life.
And now pictures (Phoebe is the tortie, Holden is black and white):

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name - Oreo
-Origin of their name - He's black with a stripe of white going down the middle of his chest
-Havanese
-Age - 1 year, 6 months
-Great things about them - Besides being the most adorable furbaby in the world...he is very playful and loves to give kisses. When you are sick or sad, he wants to try to take care of you. He will lay with you and not leave your side. Last time I was sick with a cold, he jumped into bed with me and slept with me all day. Every once in a while he would get up, sniff my face, and kiss my nose/cheek. Absolutely adorable! He just loves his family! He is also very smart and easily trained.
-Not-so-great things about them - well, prior to being neutered he would "mark" his terriorty on my new couch.
-Do you get comments about them? What are they? Really just that he is adorable and a good dog.
-Something unique about their personality - He thinks he's a cat and likes to sleep on the back of the sofa. He absolutely HATES car rides, no matter how much we try to make it pleasent for him. He literally will dance instead of beg. He will get up on hind legs and do a turn to get food. I guess we kind of reinforced that, but who wouldn't. When he was a puppy he used to treat one of his toys like a baby. He would put his toy in his crate for naps and bring it a chewy. Now he likes to beat up his toys.

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name Darwin
-Origin of their name Don't remember. DW came up with it. I think it was originally from Charles Darwin, but it's just a cool first name.
-Breed/type We think he's part German Shephard, part Doberman. He's on the small side for either breed (~50lbs), but we think his growth may have been stunted when he was little from malnutrition...
-Age We've had him almost 14 years, but we got him from a pound, so who knows....
-Great things about them Very friendly. Great control of his jaw. I used to play in the back yard with him. You know when you see police dogs being trained to attack someone's arm, and the trainer has a thick padded sleeve on. Darwin could run full-tilt at me, grab my bare arm, and after I tossed him off, there wasn't a mark on my arm, not even a pink indentation. Yet, he would chomp a steak bone into fragments in a few seconds.
-Not-so-great things about them He's terrified of noises (thunder, fireworks, plastic cheese wrappers, empty soda bottles, etc, etc... ) He's 14+, so his bladder is going.... He wants to go out in the middle of the night (even before his bladder control lessened....)
-Do you get comments about them? What are they? Door-to-door solicitors don't really make comments, but I do love their facial expressions, especially when he's barking and tugging at his collar because he wants to sniff and play with the new people...
-Something unique about their personality He is such a "momma's boy". *I'm* the "dog person" in the family, and DW is a self-professed "cat person", but Darwin clings to DW all the time. When we had cats, they adored me....
When he was younger, he used to run around the yard so fast that sometimes his front legs couldn't keep up, so he would round the corner on his front inside shoulder and his back legs pumping until his front legs could catch up....

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
Here's our princess...
DAISY
-DH is a huge fan of Dukes of Hazzard - and we had thought of getting 2 dogs, naming one Daisy and one Duke, but getting Daisy from the breeder at 6 weeks was a handful and we decided on just one, so she's called Daisy, Daisy Duke, and Princess all the time!
-She's a purebred yorkshire terrier (Yorkie)
-We got her at 6 weeks old and she's now 2 years 2 months old.
-Great things: She knows her commands very well and listens - she doesn't really understand stay though. She LOVES to cuddle in the winter. She loves playing fetch and could play all day everyday! She alerts us to all things - a neighbor coming home from work, someone pulling into our driveway, she gets along great with my MILs yorkies and they love having play dates, people comment that she has beautiful hair - she is a shiny silver/blue coat which can be common for Yorkies, but most Yorkies have the tan/black look, so she's unique. She does not bark on walks....every neighbor's dog will bark at her, but she does not bark back! She will wake you up at 6am to go out on the weekend, but as soon as she does her business, she wants to go back to bed for the next 3-4 hours!
-The Not-so-great: Due to all her playdates at my MILs, she got used to table scraps cause that is what my MIL gives her dogs, so Daisy will not eat her food unless there is chicken/beef in her food. She barks uncontrollably with my MILs one dog when she plays fetch cause Teddy is doing it. If there is no special treat in her bowl, she won't eat, and then she will throw up! ARG! She HATES snow and rain - she will wimper when we make her go outside to do her business, even if her coat is one. She HATES getting wet - even for a bath!
At 6 weeks old: Her first snow fall - which she hated: Last July 4, 2008

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name Rocco
-Origin of their name We saw a dog in the shelter that his name was Rocko but we where not ready to adopt (or so we thought) we came back the next day and he was not there but Rocco was just brought out and he was the cutest
-Breed/type Cocker spaniel with retriever
-Age 14 months
-Great things about them He got the cutest face and he respect his boundaries and he is so lovable and friendly and he can bright anyones day
-Not-so-great things about them His shedding o his shedding, his hair go everywhere!!! -Do you get comments about them? What are they? He got an underbite and is the cutest he can always give you the puppy face. Also his mix is not a usual combination of breeds
-Something unique about their personality He is afraid of absolutely everything!! Plastic bags, dorways, poodles (he is so afraid of poodles). He also prefer to play with female dogs than males (even if the "girls" are mean to him). ALso he love his toys but they always need to be in the middle of the living room, if we move his toys he will bring them back to the living room.
....and pictures!!

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
Name: Hades
Origin of their name: We like Greek mythology (especially DH), so we went through all the names, and we liked the sound of Hades.
Breed/type: Short hair cat
Age: 7
Great things about them; He's very playful and a hunter. He has caught 2 mice for us since we have been in our apartment.
Not-so-great things about them: He's not a snuggler or a lap cat, and I would LOVE him to just stay with me on the couch.
Do you get comments about them? What are they? People say he's beautiful and that he is HUGE! Which he is. He's very muscular and long.
Something unique about their personality: Hades catches bugs for us and even bees. He's a touch cookie because sometimes the bees sting him and he still gets them! He's a great watch cat. Every day when we come home he greets us at the door.

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name SoCo -Origin of their name We always name our dogs after alcholic drinks/ beverage. SoCo is for Southern comfort. So far we've had Amber, Scotch, Martini, Sake and JD (Jack Daniels) -Breed/type I think she looks like an American Dingo but was told there is no such breed so I'm not sure what she is. -Age 8 years young! -Great things about them Shes a great watch dog. She will cuddle up with you on the couch, on the bed, on the grass, wherever! She's not picky as long as she gets attention. -Not-so-great things about them She barks too much and very demanding.
-Do you get comments about them? She has beautiful teeth.
-Something unique about their personality She can disguise a fart by barking. She is the alpha male dog. She prefers a bow tie over a collar. Loves her cigars. Keeps a low profile with her hat.
And she has the most beautiful smile.

Re: Getting to know.... your pets!
-Name JD -Origin of their name We always name our dogs after alcholic drinks/ beverage. JD is for Jack Daniels -Breed/type JD is a Shiba Inu. -Age 5 years young! -Great things about them He is very shy, attentive, and smart. Sometime he pets me when I sit on the couch. He is the exact opposite of his sister SoCo. -Not-so-great things about them He farts way too much.
-Do you get comments about them? He has a beautiful coat and very adorable.
-Something unique about their personality He likes to lean up against the bedroom door, pull the level down and with his weight pushes the door open. Then he jumps on the bed and taps the touch lamp 3 times to put it on the brightest setting, then looks for something to play with. He has mastered opening the crate door from the outside. He does the lift the handle with his nose then smacks it over with his paw. The he enters his uncles crate to eat his food. He can also yodel and sing. He can say dumpling in Chinese. (I'm not kidding)
And best of all... he loves his sister SoCo.
