Getting your DC off formula...

Anyones DC hate whole milk and would rather formula? My son (10mths) won't drink it? What should I do? I started 1 bottle a day, he will start to drink it then shake his head no! LOL

Re: Getting your DC off formula...

Mix it and gradually put more milk than formula... he'll get used to it.

Re: Getting your DC off formula...

At a year we just finished off the last can of formula and went right over to whole milk with no problem. I recommend waiting until he's one, since they are suppose to be on formula until then anyway, then go cold turkey. He will eventually get the idea that it's milk or nothing and since he should also be eating 3 table food meals a day anyway he will still be getting plenty of nutrition even if he's not drinking much.

Keep trying. DD disliked milk at first and slowly but surely began drinking it.

Or you can put a little (1 oz or so) in each bottle of formula and gradually increase every day or two until it is all milk.

We mixed it too. Half milk Half formula to get her used to milk. Then gradually all milk.

Thank you for all the responses!! The doc told me not to mix, I should have asked why not. But I think thats what I did with my twins. I can't remember it was so long ago!Chat Icon

Re: Getting your DC off formula...

I wonder why your Dr said not to mix. My Dr suggested that I do mix. I tried going cold turkey with just milk & DS freaked so now I am trying to do it slowly this way (we are on day 3):

day 1 & 2 = 1/4 milk & 3/4 formula
day 3 & 4 = 1/2 milk & 1/2 formula
day 5 & 6 = 3/4 milk & 1/4 formula
day 7 = all milk

Re: Getting your DC off formula...

We mixed it with formula. The first day we put 1oz milk/5oz formula. Then the next day we put 2/4...etc.

She had no problems transitioning.
