GHI/Empire Blue Cross Blue sheild
I jsut got a letter from GHI/Empire blue cross blue shield that Stony Brook University may no longer participate in their networks as of aug 1st bc of negoations have been unsuccessful. I freaked out bc my high risk ob is affliated only with Stonybrook and will be delivering my baby in October.
I called up Empire (the number they listed in the letter) and they said its NOT set in stone but are taking peoples complaints and worries seriously and there have been many calls already. The rep said as long as I am currently under the care of a dr and the dr is affiliated only with StonyBrook, the dr may have to write a letter to Empire deeming it necessary for him/her to deliver at Stonybrook.
If u have Empire and got this letter and affects you, please call and voice ur opinion.

I got the letter today too, as I am employed with the NYPD. Luckily for me, my OB is affiliated with Good Sam. I sincerely hope everything works out for you! Just keep calling!!

Wow, I have Empire and just delivered at SB! Unbelievable! Hopefully this is just a negotiations tool!
