gift for nurses?

My last chemo treatment will be at the end of January. I've had a lot of nurses helping me during the 6 treatments and they've all be really nice, fun to talk to, etc. What's something nice I could do for the unit when I come for my last treatment? Nothing too expensive since I'm paying out the wazoo for copays (each hospital stay costs me $600, plus dr visits, lab work, etc).

First off... Congrats! That's awesome news.
So sweet you want to recognize the nurses.

What about catering lunch for them? Pizza or subs. Nothing crazy.
You can get them a GC for local restaurant
Bring in goods like fruit platter, cookies, etc.

I would have a tray of bagels delivered or bring a wrapped cookie tray, candy, etc. I wouldn't bring anything homemade.

I know a lot of chemo nurses and food/snacks are always appreciated and gobbled up.

They might not be allowed to accept GC. I've worked in 2 hospitals and gift cards were a no-no.

Oh, good to know.
Then stick with lunch from local restaurant by the hospital or fruit platter and as someone said bagels too.

Yeah - the hospital is tied to a University and we're not allowed "gifts" like gift cards.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll make sure it's prewrapped so it's obvious that it's not homemade.

If you want to cater in lunch, Panera makes individual lunch box type of things.

Congratulations on finishing your treatment!

Oh this is an awesome idea! This way they can choose something when they have a minute or even take home if they don't have a minute (and they frequently have no minutes!)

And congrats OP! This is a major accomplishment. I hope you are doing something to treat yourself.

Congrats on your last treatment!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with everyone else- a boxed lunch or breakfast, dunkin donuts breakfast with a box of Joe. It will be much appreciated. Chat Icon

Congratulations and best of health to you! How about an edible arrangement. They aren't cheap but you'd be getting one for them to share. They can eat at their leisure, and you won't have to worry if they had bought lunch in that day or made luncheon plans. I always like giving (and receiving) them because you usually won't be sabotaging someone's diet or health concerns). No matter what you choose, I'm am sure they will definitely appreciate that you wanted to acknowledge them

Food is always a welcomed treat. For some reason, even the least appetizing treats seem sweeter and exciting when found in the break room. Bagels, a plate of cookies from a bakery or a basket of bagged snacks(pretzels, granola bars, popcorn, ect) go quick from my experience. It is so nice for you to think of them and I truly wish you all the best in your health.

I agree. I think a tray of bagels, cookies, drinks is really great or pizza for lunch as well.

Congrats on your recovery! Stay strong...chemo and cancer are no small things to overcome. Chat Icon
