Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
It's a fear we all have, especially when you have had a miscarriage before. I had two in 2005 and was terrified. Once I saw the heartbeat, I felt better because I never got to see the HB before. Now I'm 11 1/2 weeks and this is the furthest I have gotten and I feel lucky and blessed, but still terrified until I get my baby on the ultrasound screen! That is the best feeling.
Best of luck to you for a sticky baby!!!!!

Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
I had a m/c in April of last year. I am now 35 weeks preggers with a little girl. I had genetic testing done with this pregnancy and found out that I am a carrier of Trisomy 18, but this baby is perfectly healthy, but it could have been the reason for the m/c last year. But this baby girl is perfectly healthy and is due in 5 weeks, and has a healthy heart, lungs, and is weighing about 6 lbs with 5 weeks still to go.
So please know that just because you had a m/c doesn't mean this pregnancy will be the same.

Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
I went through that. So sorry!!
I had a baby that was diagonsed w/ Trisomy 18. That's a genetic condition. So, just b/c one baby had a genetic condition doesn't mean another will. My healthy baby boy was just born in Jan.
Feel free to FM if you have questions.

Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
I lost my second son at 24 weeks. I am now 28 weeks pg with DS #3. I was a basket case until I started to feel this one move more consistently. It does get easier.

Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
I had two M/C's. Yes i was a wreck for the first Trimester. I literally told my Dr. that i will be in every week for bloodowork & Ultra sound. She had no problems with that. Now i go every 2 weeks (im in my 2nd Tri). It gets easier as you go. Its hard i know, I had a total break down at 10 wks. Which was when we lost the heartbeat with pregnancy #1. We had the genetic testing done but everything came back normal. So no answer for it. But After i went in to Dr & all was ok this time, I kind of relaxed after that. Good luck & think positive.

I had one last march and am currently 21 weeks pregnant. theres always an underlying fear that something could go wrong...but you have to brush it off and enjoy the now.

Re: girls who are pregnant after a miscarriage
I had a mc right before the 2nd trimester began.
It was a trisomy 21. Which isn't what caused the mc. that's still unknown.
I also had a missed mc which basically means I had no idea I mc... nor did my body. I found out at a routing dr appt that the baby died a week prior. I had no bleeding, etc. I had to have a DNC as well.
I always thought that I would KNOW if I was mcing. And so this was not only quite the shock for me... but it was also like pulling the rug out from under me... my safety net had been stolen. Now I live with the fear that all can go tragically wrong and I could be completely unaware of it. that's really scary for me.
Currently, I am 22 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. The fear and anxiety before each dr appt has not gone away. On the way to the appts I would relive that one fatal appt with the first pregnancy. I can't say it's been super easy to go through. But I can say the lasting fear is normal and most mc girls do experience it. As you get further along it does get easier but it never dissipates. I had some bad anxiety today over waiting another week for the next dr app. I have major issues between each appt. My DH is aware and totally understands why and when I get nuts about it.
After the dr appts though... it's such a delight. The car ride home is def different than the ride going to the dr.
It's sad because we have been jaded by the worst that can happen. It would be a very different pregnancy had we not had the experiences we had. Sometimes I wish I could be naive and just not know this side of it. But this is the path we have to go down for whatever reason. So it's really important to just try to focus on the positive. I can honestly say my road has taught be to be far more grateful than had I not had a mc, for me personally.
If you ever need to talk, feel free to FM me.

This articulated my feelings perfectly. Word for word. I tried for 3 years and then had 3 unexplained losses. I am now a little over 8 weeks (furtheset I have ever gotten), and I basically live in fear I hope that with time, it willl get easier, but really what can we do ? Got to keep trucking on.

trisomy 21 is one of the most common trisomy's. so it could very well have been a fluke!!
In any event, I found out from the DNC genetic testing that was done. I found out about 6 weeks later... maybe even more.
Now that I'm pregnant I did do genetic testing to see if I'm a carrier. I did all the regular genetic testing that would normally be done, and trisomy 21 is one of them. Luckily I'm not a carrier. I won't lie, I was scared. But just because there's a trisomy in the family doesn't necessarily mean you are a carrier.
AND IF you are a carrier, that doesn't mean LO will have it. The next step is to test DH to see if he's a carrier. It's just a matter of increasing or decreasing the odds of the outcome. Even if you both are carriers, that doesn't mean you will have a LO with that trisomy.
Also, when you do go to your first dr appt they will ask for A LOT of history... and the stillborn sibling will be an answer for one of those questions so discuss it with your doctor regardless.
ETA: PLEASE don't be paranoid about being a carrier. I too was nervous about that because i didn't have the testing done until I was pregnant again (even though they told me to go before I got pregnant again).... but I did my best to try to focus on the good parts. YAY you are pregnant. Indulge in that aspect instead!! if it helps think of me, I know I'm a stranger on the internet... but I had a pregnancy with down's syndrome and I'm not a carrier.
it takes more than just you being a carrier for LO to have trisomy 21.
