Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
...did you have to start going for weekly growth sonos towards the end?
I have been going every 3 weeks for the past few months- since the baby is measuring on the "small side of average"
The Dr office called me yesterday and told me that he would like me to start doing growth sonos every week...starting next week. Next week I will be around 37 weeks.
At the last growth sono the tech said she did put on a pound and an oucne in the 3 weeks and everything looked good. She was still measuring small, but she told me that as long as she was steadily gaining weight it was ok.
Now I'm freaking out about this. I have a regular appt tonight for my weekly biophysical etc- so I will ask him then. But I just feel like he is making me a nervous wreck and wondered if anyone else had experinece with a baby that measured small...

Re: Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
I wouldn't freak out...
I was told in the beginning of my last pregnancy, that my DD might be small (based on my 1st trimester screening). And that I would have to have extra sonos in my 3rd trimester.
Then I developed GD and was told the baby was going to be huge and had weekly sonos at the end of my 3rd trimester.
Growth Sonos are really just estimates, very often times they are wrong with the weights. I was told my DD was going to be over 8lbs.
She was born 6lbs 11oz.....

Re: Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
I was told after my level II that my girl was measuring small. So now at 28 weeks I'm going for bi weekly growth sonos. I was told its nothing to really worry about but they like to keep an eye on it.

Re: Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
I have to start going every two weeks to track the baby's growth.
I know for me, they want to keep an eye on the cord.
Think of it this way, if they think the baby had restricted growth, they will just want the baby out sooner. . .and you are already 37 weeks and full term! Try not to worry too much (easier said than done!)

Re: Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
DD1 measured SGA and was borderline IUGR. I went for NSTs and BPPs 1-2x per week and had growth sonos every other week. She generally stayed in the 10-15 %tile. She was born just fine, but small. She still is today (only 5 %tile for weight but avg. height) and is a terrible eater!
DD2 should be born any time now (c'mon already) and has a SUA. She has been holding the 27-30%tile for weight, which I am very pleased with. I've had growth sonos every 3 weeks, but I refused the weekly monitoring. I've done plenty of research and reading on my own; I'm informed. Not that I'm recommending this to others. I personally hated the Perinatologists and their office, I also didn't like that they said that just do this for all patients...I expected to be treated as an individual case. I've tried to keep up with increased protein to help her growth, but I think genetics has a lot to do with it...I'm petite and DH (though tall) is very thin.
My advice...be an informed patient beyond what the doctors tell you, be your own advocate, ask questions and make sure you get the answers, trust your mother's intuition, and keep records of what you are told too.

Thank you! I sometimes feel they are making me go for all these tests for the money. I know they are looking out for us and themselves as well but every single BPP and NST comes back fine- and every week they make me do it again. I'm tired of it. Now growth sonos once a week? My insurance company is going to go broke from me! I want to be vigilant- but the baby is gaining weight. She isn't huge but so what? Everything else seems healthy. I also think they are WAY off on my due date from the start- i know EXACTLY when I conceived. EXACTLY. And they have me as conceiving 2 weeks earlier based on a 28 day cycle which i NEVER have. So I think she is acutally 2 weeks 'younger' than what they have her at. Which would explain the smaller size. So frustrating!

yes, i feel this way too, given that the results from both girls has always been fine, but lower on the weight side of things. If they could have pointed to something going wrong or changing, I would have reacted differently in regards to the testing. I think they are often just trying to ward off malpractice lawsuits. It's amazing how much money the ins. pays them for such a quick consult!
I never did go weekly for a growth, even with DD1. My understanding is that there isn't enough interval growth from one week to the next and natural variation in the measurements based on baby position could account for the differences. It is so hard to get good measurements at the end especially.
I knew exactly when I conceived both girls too (DD1 was b2b IUIs and DD2 could only be one of two b2b days of BDing). I've learned a lot about the tests, tracking results, and findings from research in medical journals (there is so much access from Google scholar). I wouldn't let them change my due date.

Re: Girls with baby's who were measuring small...
Both my babies measured on the small side of average. I had three growth sonos with DD#1. My second with DD#2 is scheduled for the end of the week.
DD#1 gained weight steadily and was just small so they didn't see the need for additional sonos. We will see what happens with DD#2 on Friday.
