Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
are they basic ones or brand names one?
I got a basic pair from Davis and I would love a nice pair..so I can wear them daily ( I wear contacts in day, glasses at nite).
I also dont want to spend $$$ on them either so if you have a suggestion on where to go, let me know
TIA!

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I've gotten 6 pairs from Davis (no-name) in the past 6 years, and none are as comfortable or sturdy as my 7-year old Calvin Klein ones. I wear contacts all day, and only use these about an hour at night, but I do think it is worth spending more. Davis carries name brands, but they aren't covered by my insurance.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I had some prada frames that honestly were not as comfortable as the nine west ones I wear now. My sister used to work at lenscrafters and I remember her saying that even some of the expensive designer frames really aren't made that well. For me, the key was finding a pair that looked great on my face, regardless of the brand.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I just got a pair a few months ago - no name but they're titanium frames (light as a feather and SO comfy!)
I only need them for night driving or the movies, so I didn't really want designer frames. plus I don't care for plastic frames. I think they look terrible on me.
my insurance covered most of it. I only had to pay a total $30 for them out of pocket, with the exam included in that total.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I wear my glasses everyday. I buy something I like and will last.
I have switched brands many times.
This time it's DKNY.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I had Brooks Brothers, DKNY, my last pair were generic(bought these at costco), and my current pair is called Vivid and I have no clue who they are. I paid a good amount for them.

I have no name ones from Davis since I wear my contacts everyday.
I've heard a lot of raves from Costco though.. I want to check it out.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I have 3 pair
Prada D&G ProDesign (i think that's what it's called)
I don't go in with a name brand in mind. i just look at them all and find the one I like. the ProDesign is supposedly a prestigous name in the glasses world, but I had NO clue until someone not so clueless told me
I always end up spending a lot on my glasses. I mostly wear my contacts, but do wear my glasses a few times a month.

Same with me. I had a pair of DKNY, and found them very uncomfortable. You have to go with what fits your face, and what you are comfortable with.
I always receive compliments on my glasses, and they are no name frames from Davis Vision. You can definitely find a nice pair that is covered by your insurance.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
Deb, I am the same as you, I wear contacts daily but at night put my glasses on. I use to go to Davis & even though my glasses lasted me 5 years, I hated wearing them
I went to Ultra-Vision in Levittown the last time & got Titanium frames (no name) but they are so comfy & very stylish! I paid $250 with insurance....They are very lightweight & when I put them on, I don't even realize they are on my face...

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I have never gotten designer glasses. I have always had " no-name" ones --- for me it's just about trying on as many pairs as possible and going with what looks good on my face.
I LOVE the glasses that I have now. I have gotten so many complements on them.

I have a pair of Valentino frames that I bought 5 years ago. I have since bought no-name glasses, which I don't like nearly as much.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
I pretty much buy whatever looks best and works with my insanely high prescription.... both designer and generic.
DH wears glasses a lot and he just bought a pair of Armanis and is in love bc he says they are lighter on his face and more comfy.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
So many of them are made by the same companies and then they just have lines that are licensed to have the names of the designers we know. I recently got a pair of Versace glasses and I doubt that someone from Versace really created the design. Maybe someone from Versace has to approve them to be in the collection but they come from one of the same companies that many eyeglass frames come from. I worked in the eyewear industry before law school. If I liked glasses that did not have a name, I would have bought those. In fact, sometimes I feel weird walking around with the name "Versace" on my temples.

Re: Glasses (with presciption)-Girls who wear them....
Here's a stupid question.. if I have my prescription from Davis Vision..could I take it to say.. Costco or somewhere else??
Or does it have to be from a doctor on a legal prescription pad?
