Glucose test tomorrow - a question... *update*
I am going for my 1-hour tomorrow. It's early, I know, but my glucose levels have been wacky since the start of my pregnancy. I'll be 15 weeks on Wednesday and my doc just wants to make sure that nothing is going on even from this early.
My test is scheduled for 8:30 at my doctor's office. How long do I have to fast for? I had asked my doctor at my last appointment, but I can't remember what they said. Can I have water after I start fasting?
I'm dreading this already - more so because I like to eat something when I first get up - I get lightheaded if I don't have anything in my stomach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just got back to work - it wasn't that bad at all! I got the orange flavored drink (I didn't have a choice - they just handed it to me) and it really wasn't all that bad. I actually had nightmares about it last night! As far as the fasting, another girl on here and I have the same doc, so she FM'd me last night - it was just from midnight on and I could have water. The test is done right in my doctor's office, so no lab visit was necesary. Thanks to everyone that responded last night!
My doc said that I passed the Down screening with flying colors and I got to hear the heartbeat! It was the sweetest little sound ever! It was going at 144 BPM.
Mine said this too. No fasting necessary.
Re: Glucose test tomorrow - a question...
there is NOT to be fasting for the 1 hour - that is what my doctor told me.
YOUR DOCTOR is the only one who should give you those instructions. Honestly - call them NOW and ask that question.
I'd actually call the lab where you're having it done. My dr. told me I didn't have to fast, but I'm glad I checked with the lab (Quest) b/c I wasn't supposed to eat anything after midnight. The day I went in for my 1 hour test, another woman was turned away b/c she had eaten breakfast that morning.
at this time of night though - an OB will be on call where a lab will not. I had my test in my OB's office....so i don't know about the lab stuff..
Re: Glucose test tomorrow - a question...
I didnt fast with DS and I asked again (same dr) this time around and again, no fasting. I was told, obviously, don't be snacking on donuts and cookies all day. My test is not until 6PM, so, I'll drink a lot of water, have Cheerios for breakfast and a light lunch. With DS thats what I did too.
Re: Glucose test tomorrow - a question...
If you doctor told you to fast and you just can't remember how long to, fasting is usually about 8 hours. Water is fine as well. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
I think it depends on your OB - b.c mine said both with DD and this time - that if you have it first thing in the morning you should not eat after 12am, but if you do it later in the day you eat and then fast for 2 hours before the test. I think that is why many people do it first thing in the morning.
