God Parent ??
My DH has 2 sisters and no brothers. I only have a brother who can't be here to be the godfather. My DH's only male friends are my friends husbands. So how do we pick a god father out of my friends husbands without upsetting my friends who i've know much longer. As it is he still has to decide which of his 2 sisters is going to be the godmother, since that will cause family drama anyways, were trying not to cause drama with the god father. Any suggestions?? My idea was to leave both of his sisters out since it will cause MAJOR FAMILY DRAMA and just pick one of our friends as a couple and explain it to his family that since we didn't want to choose one over the other we picked our friends. But of course DH hates this idea.

Re: God Parent ??
Me personally i wouldnt pick a friend. I dont care how much drama it would cause. Dh doesnt even know his godmother and godfather. They were his parents close friends who had a falling out many years later.
I have 2 sisters and a brother and we are all very close. Dh is a single child and he said he wouldnt pick a friend either. he would pick prob my brother (who hes close with and is married) and i would pick one of my sisters (nothing against my sister in law) . Im not picking a couple bc it has to be a couple. If he wanted to pick one of my brother in laws thats ok too - i just wouldnt pick a couple just bc it HAS to be a couple
Obviously your family and dh family know there can only be 1 Godmother so i dont think either one of them could really be offended if u picked one and not the other - then again i dont know who they are LOL.
Good Luck!!!
ETA: i know a few ppl who only picked a Godmother or Godfather. Maybe that is a possability?

Re: God Parent ??
Both of my brothers and my BIL are DSs godparents. Since we are Jewish it is more an honorary title. But is making both of your sisters godmother an option?

As far as I know only one of the sisters can technically be on the baptismal certificate. We can say that they are both the godparents but only one will be named on the certificate. So then it goes down to the family drama of which one it is. Honestly either one I have issues with but it is family so i try to just ignore it for the sake of the family. But it's up to him to choose which one. As for the god father. Since the only other male relative is my bro and he can't be here for it, we're going to have to pick a friend. Thanks for all the input!

Re: God Parent ??
id just pick the friends and tell them you couldnt pick one sister over the other so it was the fair approach...
me on the other hand... i only have 1 sister, so my child will have a godmother who openly says she doesnt believe in the church

Re: God Parent ??
You can still choose your brother as the Godfather - you can have a proxy stand in for him at the actual Christening. It's done all the time. You just have to pick up the proxy form at the church.
(I used to work in a church rectory)

i would choose the oldest sister to be the godmother and then have your DH choose the godfather.
