Going against a coworker for a promotion

A friend in another dept. has recommended me for a position. Another coworker is also up for the position. She emailed me and said "You versus me, this should be interesting." Now she's giving me attitude. I knew she was being interviewed, but I was never going to say anything. I feel it's really petty. I have much better experience and qualifications. She has write-ups in her file that I think will disqualify her once they review her with HR. How do I deal w/competing against a coworker?

Wish her luck and get the job if you really want it.

She sounds immature and intimidated, to be honest. If she felt confident, there'd be no e-mail sent to you like that, and also, there would never be any kind of mention of it, either.

reason number 13912473 why it's hard to be friends with co-workers. I'd simply wish her luck.

(and good luck - I hope you get it!Chat Icon )

I'd just ignore it and not discuss it with her. change the subject if she brings it up.

Thanks ladies! I think she's trying to psyche me out...She brought it up again today and I was nonchalant about it, but she kept saying she doesn't want it, blah blah blah.

Ha, I would totally save that email. If you do get promoted and not her, she sounds like the type that would try to retaliate.

No wonder she has write ups in her file, sending something like that.

Good luck to you in the meantime!

She doens't really want it which is exactly why she applied for it.Chat Icon Sounds like someone is already preparing her excuse when she doesn't get it.

If you get it, will she report to you in any way?

No, thats the good thing; it would be entirely different positions, even in a different building so we'd have absolutely no interaction.

Don't do anything.

Don't even participate in her childish antics. Just ignore them and focus on doing the best you can do to be noticed. Don't let her efforts take away your concentration on what it is that you are working towards.

Good Luck.
