Re: Going Green
DH and I just bought re-useable insulated lunch bags since we bring lunch every day to work. it was so wasteful to use paper bags.

Re: Going Green
I bought the lightbulbs to save energy, canvas bags (when I actually remember them - even keeping them in the trunk isn't a sure thing). And stopped buying bottled water when possible.
I also am eating less (cow) meat (1 lb of meat = 10 pounds of grain )

My next step is to switch to Compostable Trash Bags.

I want to look for these.
I use canvas bags. Lights off during the day & when not needed. I recycle all soda cans/bottles I reuse any plastic bags we do have for the litter box or my sons diaper pails.

I haven't read through the entire post but I've noticed that a lot of people are using the energy saving lightbulbs. I just wanted to let everyone know that they contain mercury and must be disposed of correctly. If they break, the mercury must be cleaned correctly. I plan on switching to regular light bulbs. We don't have lights on often and they are safer to dispose of.
Thanks for this thread I love all the ideas I'm getting! I'm going to pick up those books mentioned previously.
Just an FYI -- all Home Depot collect & recylce the CFL bulbs now. Someone posted it on the board recently. I am not really worried about breakage - I can't remember breaking any in 10+ years.
That was my post: http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=302917
The manufacturing of standard light bulbs puts much more mercury in the air than if all the CFLs broke.
If one happens to break, open the windows, and it will be safe in that room in 15 minutes to an hour, depending on which report you read.

Re: Going Green
I want to clean more green, is there a way to get rid of your old chemical cleaning products safely? Besides using them.
We always reuse our plastic bags, but we are going to get some of the canvas ones. We have all CFL's now. We have energy efficent appliances. Turn the lights off when they aren't in use. So cleaning products are my next thing to change.
ETA: and we recycle everything we can.

For me I gave my chemical cleaning products to a friend. I didn't want to flush them down the toilet. I did use all that I could before I made the switch to the Shaklee Get Clean Kit.
Now I need to make the switch to Organic foods.

Thanks Chris, that is a good idea.
Anyone else? Can you take it down to your town and they will dispose of it properly?
