Re: Going sugar-free
I had GD and it was not the end of the world. I was able to control it with diet and my baby turned out perfect. Good Luck!

Re: Going sugar-free
I could understand how you don't want another needle in your life. But having GD does not mean that you have to take insulin through a needle. They do also have pill forms and most cases of GD are controlled by diets. It is really only controlled by insulin in extreme cases which not eating sugar for a couple of days is not going to mask.
Also as someone else previously posted testing for GD is based on how your body processes sugar, not how much you have. They are going to give you a highly sugared drink when you get there.
You need to do what you feel is right but I think you're overdoing it a little too much. I could understand not eating a bowl of ice cream the night before. But I would never recommend any pregnant woman to get back on sugar for days before something. Your body and your baby needs the sugar for energy.

Re: Going sugar-free
If you are going to cut back or eliminate sugar, do it for your overall health, not for this test.
Good luck!
Ps. I hadwhite rice, oreos and orange the night before, and I passed.

Re: Going sugar-free
i can understand not wanting to take more than your lovenox shots a day....but like someone said in a previous post, not every GD woman ends up on insulin. trust me, no one knows better than me about taking shots...i'm a juvenile diabetic and have been taking shots since i was 11 and this is my second pregnancy and both of them i've had to take lovenox...so i'm the ultimate pincushion. that being said though, things could be a lot worse....and if watching your sugar intake is the worst thing you have to do, its not that big of a deal. it doesn't mean you eat NO sugar at all. i would not survive....its all about balance. but, like they said, don't cheat on the test thinking it will make a difference. if your body cannot metabolize sugar well, and you're not producing enough insulin for your intake, it will show up regardless. i obviously don't have to take the test, but know that its pretty sensitive. also a thing to remember, you might think you're faking the test out by not eating "sugary" things, but almost EVERYTHING you eat will break down into some form of sugar....or contains some form of sugar. so, just be conscious....its the only thing you can do. and don't be afraid of the outcome...whatever it may be its a small price to pay for the end result! good luck!!!!
