good price for rental car??
We're planning a trip to CA this summer for a wedding, but we're running into a problem with the rental car.
The wedding is in SAn diego. We're flying into SAN FRAN a week before the wedding and taking a week to drive down the coast and see some sights on our way to san diego for the wedding. WELL this is causing some problems for a rental car because they all charge crazy fees to dropping off at a different airport. DH looked yesterday and it looked like dollar was charging almost $500 fee (so the car would be close to $1000 total for the 9 days) the cheapest he found was through Fox, and that was $700 for the 9 days.
does this sound right?? i thought we would have to pay extra, but i didn't think it would be THIS much extra. any suggestions??

There's always a surcharge for dropping at a different location but $500 is crazy - especially since you are going between two larger cities. Would dropping the car in LA make a difference? I think it's about 2 hours from San Diego - you could drive back up?
Depending on the class of car, $700 for 9 days doesn't sound terrible.
I would web search for coupon codes. See if there are benefits for joining their loyalty program. I know AAA and BJs has discounts to their members.
Try priceline.com - a car is a car.

I agree with Christine - that sounds really high!
Costco has discounts too - as well as BJs and AAA. I usually end up renting through Alamo with the member discount for Coscto or BJs (I'm BJs, Dh is Costco and they have never checked for a card).

We are doing the same thing renting in San Fran and driving to San Diego - I found we will stay in San Fran at least 2 or 32 days and a car is not needed there - if you look to rent a car for less then a week the price drops alot. So if you don't need a car in San Fran for a few days that will help with the cost.
And as PP have said always use some type of coupon code.
