Got appnt. for CPSE meeting....Help!
What do I do? any tips? Who do I bring with me?
And do the kids typically go too? He won't stay w? anyone else, I really don't have a choice.
I just don't know what I want or should be asking for in terms of services.
I wish I could stay w/ the EI providers we have :(

You're in Lindenhurst, right? If so, we are too Linda Kaye is AMAZING. Bring your child with you-they might do some evaluations at that meeting. And there's a separate room with toys. We just went by ourselves..no parent member or anything like that. There will be a room full of people-various reps for the county and district. If my memory serves me correct, they'll set up separate evaluations for your child. The first meeting we had, they did a few tests with Aurelia there, while we waited outside. If you're in Lindenhurst...they're a great district for special needs! Best of luck!

Re: Got appnt. for CPSE meeting....Help!
I don't know your district but I brought an "Army" with me.
I brought my team leader, social worker, speech therapist and an ABA therapist with me.
I was "prepped" by my therapists on what to ask for and the "jargon" so they would know exactly what I was asking for.
For example, if you want sessions one on one outside of the classroom it's called "pull outs". Or "at home services" if you want the speech at home not in school.
Do you want a 12 month program(all year)? Which means he would get school in the Summer. But since Summer school is only 6 weeks do you also want Noah to have sessions when school is not in session? Do not assume anything. You have to ask about it all.
For example, EJ is in a FT program with a minimum ratio of 6/1/2 (because of his needs), on a 12 months program. Allowed to 3 speech per week, 2 OT, 2 PT. 1 Family training per week. All those at the school. 2 additional hours ABA each day after school. Going to school for the 6 weeks in the Summer. And getting the 2 hours ABA while school is off (the vacation schedule).
Remember that sessions in OT, Speech, will be 30 minutes not 45 minutes. So take that in consideration while asking for services.

Hi : ) I answered your post on the parenting board but I just wanted to add a few things.
I know you said you were looking into a a SE preschool but you can also go to a typical preschool and have the district provide a SEIT to attend with your child if you think that would be a better option.
That is what we did this year but we are switching her to a SE preschool starting in the summer. While we were at home though this year all of her former EI therapists tranistioned with her to district, so if you get some home services you may be able to keep your current therapists if they will do district services as well. It's really up to them though (I think the pay is different).
Good luck!!

Hmmm...I'm not sure about Copaigue exactly but I do have a friend who's in Copaigue and her son attends ACLD with my daughter. So I think the pre-school doesn't have to be located in Copaigue. Good luck with everything!
