Got in a car accident; am fine...but a question
OK, so I was at a dead stop at a light right near my house this morning...daydreaming. Out of nowhere, I get rearended. Sounded HORRIBLE. Like, I picture the back of my car totally f-ed up. I get out, it seems fine. The lady apologizes and says her foot slipped off the break. We pull into a parking lot...I am shaking, b/c it really scared me. She didn't have her insurance card (????!!!) but we exchanged names/numbers. She told me if I see any damage later she'd rather not go through insurance and would pay me. Because we are fine and both cars seem fine, I didn't call the cops. It just seemed like a "bump/tap" situation to me. Danny tells me I should have stayed there and called the police and he's worried that even though I feel OK now, later I will feel whiplash....my dad is going to come by my job later to take a peak at my car. Bumper, etc seems fine. a couple scratches that can be (I hope) compounded out. Did I screw up? It seemed more like a hassle to sit there and call the cops....normally, I would have or if my car was dented up, but it seemed OK. Nice way to start Monday, eh?

first off, so sorry!!im glad you're ok.
did you also take her license plate in case she was lying about her name/number
since its minor, iwould have done the same thing...
I was in a car accident this winter, not my fault at all, and my insurance still went up since cops were called and we went through insurance which makes me

That's her; I copied it from her license. I felt awful right away, b/c I got out of my car like a bat out of hell and yelled "WHAT THE FLUCK?!"
Yeah...I hate insurance issues....let's see what my dad thinks. Watch, my bumper is like cracked and hanging at the seam...

sorry to hear about this.
I recently was in an accident and didn't get a police report but I did get all info. Sometimes the damage doesn't look like much but it can be. I called the guy and told him about the estimate and he told me it was too much and he doesn't have it. He asked to pay me out. I told him to put it through insurance. It took the insurance company camping outside his house for them to track him down. The car is fixed but it took a while.
The only thing I would be concerned with if there is no visible damage is how you feel. Sometimes if there is no visual damage to the car there could be internal damage.

Really? It drove fine all the way to work, no noise, etc. I think the saving grace was that it was also a small car...not a truck/higher car...what not. What a trusty little Volvo I have...lol

Years ago this happened to me, same scenario, no damage, just exchanged name and number. About a week later I get a letter from my insurance company they are dropping me for not reporting an accident to them!  
apparently this guy took my plate down, called the cops, got my insurance info, called my insurance company reported the accident and somehow had damage I didnt see anything. anyhow b/c I didnt report it- I was dropped and it was hard to find another insurance company with a good rate b/c I had to start all over again and apparently they check previous accidents and previous ins company!

holy crap!!!!! that is awful!!! I don't think this lady did that...she seemed relieved that after I asked her what the f*ck was wrong with her I didn't press the matter, looked at my car, and went about my way....

If there was no damage I probably would of done the same thing you did.
AND my DH would have reacted the same way yours did...and then I would have swore that next time I'd call the police. It wasn't right that she did not have an insurance card on her.

I will always call the cops from now on. I had an accident years ago that I think was a scam and I think the insurance company did too. I ended up getting sued for personal injury, even though I thought the whole thing was a setup and the isnurance company was suspicious (they covered both of us). In the end, he hired a television attorney (he was a 17 y.o. kid) and got the amount my policy covered for P.I.
I think if I called the cops things might have worked out differently. Also, after I told this story to someone in my family who is an attorney, he told me to always call, b/c you never know if the person is drunk or high or whatever and it is better to have a witness there. I don't think you have to file with the insurance co. just because you reported it, but I am not sure about that.

My brother is a cop and he told me to always call the cops and get medical attention ASAP! You never know what someone is going to pull on you. Go to the doctor and file a no fault claim and just get checked out!
Also, even though the car looks fine there may be damage that you cannot see.

Now I'm worried my car is damaged and I just don't know it. Wouldn't it be rattling or something? I mean, she wasn't going that fast. She was wearing sneaker mules and her foot slipped off. I TOTALLY have a headache but I'm sure it's b/c I'm all blah and annoyed and swamped at work!

Same thing happened to me - hit from behind, everything looked fine but it ended up my suspension was damaged.

Someone rearended me about a month ago also. I copied all info and got cell and phone numbers and I also did not call the cops. Of course, later on....DH and my dad both yelled at me why I didnt call? I honestly couldnt be bothered either.
I ended up needing a lot of work and a new exhaust to my car. I brought it to the auto body shop and was quoted $2400. The lady originally told me she didnt want to go thru insurance either but when I told her the amount, she changed her mind.
Worse case scenario, you have ten days to file a police report. (I had called them to double check). I didnt think it was necessary at the time.
Im sure it will all be fine!

My dh just got hit in his work truck and not a scratch on it but the other guys front was smashed in. The 1st thing he did was call the cops. You can't mess around with things like this.
