Got my MRI results
1) No tear pf the tendons, ligaments, or menisci of the knee. 2) Slight thinning of the articular of the patellofemoral joint compartment of the knee. Dr. said this is "runners knee" but doesn't think this is what is causing my pain. 3) Edematous changes within the sift tissues between the iliotibial band lateral margin of the lateral femoral condyle of the knee suggestive of iliotibial band syndrome. So IT Band syndrome it is... I got a cortisone injection today and felt great afterward due to the numbing agent. It felt absolutely wonderful to walk without pain for a few hours... this pain has been going on for over 6 weeks now! Now that the numbing has worn off I am in pain again. He said will get worse tomorrow do to the shot and then will feel better.
The dr. showed me a few stretches and exercises to do, but said he believes cortisone shot will help and said I can ease back into running in 10 days. Said I could try foam roller but he doesn't think it makes a difference, and I can do exercise on my own (no p/t).
I do not see how this will be possible (me running in 10 days) - I can barely walk still.
Anyone go through this and can offer insight?

Re: Got my MRI results
I have IT band in both knees. I went for ART (active release therapy) at a Chiropractor and it helped a lot. (hurt like nothing I have ever experienced, but it helped!)
I also began strength training a lot more to build the muscles in my legs more so that there wasn't so mch stress on my IT bands!
Hope that helps!

Re: Got my MRI results
I have no experience with IT band but (as you know) I have experience with a knee injury!! Be prepared for rehab to take longer than expected (hopefully not your case!- fingers are crossed for you). I thought I'd be running the L.I 10k...didn't happen. I've been pretty much out since January. I get in a couple of short runs.
Also, it takes mental preparation but you're going to be slower. I seriously upest when I think that my current 5k pace is a 10:50 mile whereas I used to be at a 8:50 mile! I knew I would lose speed but I guess when I actually saw it then it really bruised my ego.
Do all your stretches and try to stay positive. I've found other workouts to do in the meantime and have worked on strengthening my leg muscles.
Hang in there

Re: Got my MRI results
I don't know anything about IT band, but I see a lot of people wearing these: for it.
I agree that you are going to be slow - not only b/c of your knee, but you need two days of training for every day off after 2 weeks.
Glad it wasn't a tear! Hope that you are back in 10 days!

Re: Got my MRI results
I have I.T. issues at times and go to my chiropractor for A.R.T. like the pp mentioned. Has helped me a lot.
Great news though!!
