Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
What is the difference? Per my previous post venting about BRU and how my stroller choices are never available, I decided to choose a back up Metrolite stroller in Berkshire, however the matching car seat is a Safeseat... all the other systems I was looking at were the Quattro's which all have the Snugride.
Thoughts? Complaints? Feel free to FM me if necessary, I'd like honest opinions.

Re: Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
Actually I just read in my Baby Bargains book that the Safeseat failed the consumer reports enhanced crash test and they gave it an overall low score. Guess the snugride would be best. I just can't believe the systems I like are all unavailable. Maybe I can order direct from Graco if no one is able to get it for my shower?

I have a snugride and I like it and I have the stroller that is just the metal frame that you snap the car seat into. I am using that while the baby is in the infant seat and then just using a completely different stroller once he is out of the infant seat.

I'm not going to be any help here, but just wanted to tell you we recently got the Metrolite in Berkshire and we love it, I love the pattern (had to buy it online though, they didn't carry it in the stores)...but I just bought it as a stroller, not as a travel system. We have a separate Snugride and I love it!

Snugride is safer, according to the safety ratings.

I have a Safeseat and it was great. A little heavier than a Snugride though so a little harder to carry. Its very easy to install so its well liked by car safety people. The conumer reports testing was not done correctly and they rescinded it voluntarily. Baby Bargains shouldn't use those results.

Re: Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
We went with the Snugride. Although both have comparable specs, the safeseat has scored higher in crash test ratings. And, if I remember correctly, the Snugride may have been recalled once.

Re: Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
From what I have read the snugride is lighter than the safeseat and that is a big plus for me.

If you look online, Baby Bargains has retracted their comments about the Safeseat b/c Consumer Reports made some significant errors in their crash tests.
That said, however, the Safeseat is heavier than the Snugride, and the fabric on most (not all) of the models doesn't breath well and can lead to a baby overheating.

I didn't know about the retraction. Thanks so much for the info.

Re: Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
On the carseat boards I visit everyone says the Safeseat is much easier to install -- it was easy to install, but I never tried installing a Snugride, so I can't really compare. DS was in his until he was 12 months, which was nice. But it is heavier -- it's a trade-off -- longer shelf-life vs. heavier. I carried him around in it until he was about 9 months, so it didn't really matter to me. Check out the carseat board on babycenter.com -- lots of good info!
As the PP said, that old Consumer Reports test was flawed and retracted, so don't go by that.

Re: Graco Safeseat vs. Snugride?
Even if the comment was retracted, hearing that it gets hot for baby can be an issue... DH is a sweater... chances are our baby can run warm too...
Good to hear good comments about the metrolite in Berkshire... our other concern is that we are one of the few families left in the world not buying an SUV so fitting some of the strollers into the trunk of a normal car can be arduous from what I hear. Not sure how true that is, but I'm sure the SUV manufacturers are loving that. Anyway, I hear the metrolite folds away easier for cars than the travel system strollers. I keep seeing the snugride in Devon when I'm out and about - lot of people seem to have it... even though I'm not in love with the pattern it is neutral and a possiblity rather than the system to just use the stroller frame/snap n go until we are ready to use the metrolite. It's a thought since I'm getting annoyed with BRU about their stuff not being available. However, I also have time I'm sure before my shower. I'm 25 weeks.
