Grand Jury Duty

I had jury duty today and got assigned to be on a grand jury until 12/1. I know it is my duty as a citizen and all, and I do think it might be interesting, but it is going to be a royal pain dealing with delegating and rescheduling all of my work responsibilities for the next month! I see children for weekly therapy and I won't be able to see them for weeks. Chat Icon

ETA: Instead of having off the day after Thanksgiving, I now have to be in court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

Knock on wood...I have been called for jury duty twice and both times I was not needed. I can't imagine sitting on Grand Jury. Chat Icon

Re: Grand Jury Duty

Is it true that once you serve on grand jury, you never have to serve in jury duty again? My friend was in a grand jury for 6 months and said that was the only reason he decided to go ahead with it.

no, you just can't get called for state jury duty for 8 years. You can however, get called for federal jury duty 2-4 years after. Chat Icon

Re: Grand Jury Duty

My coworker just called me and said that my poor supervisors were flipping out trying to figure out how they were going to cover everything that I do. Even though it isn't my fault, I feel terrible! Chat Icon

Re: Grand Jury Duty

I did grand jury for a month out in riverhead...a couple of years ago.
I am so sorry! I know how awful it is. I had to leave my first graders with a sub for a month...I felt horrible! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm in the minority here...I loved Grand Jury.

Are you serving Federal or County??? Chat Icon

If County...what location?

We were let out early almost every day, usually by 1pm.

Did you try to postpone your jury duty service?

I had grand jury duty as well today out in Riverhead. I postponed mine. They said it was fine to postpone until the summer. (I am a school teacher).
