Grandma related, I feel terrible!
To make a long story short, my grandmother who is 90 moved from the city to here.
She has a car. She hasn't been driving since she broke her hip a little over a year ago and she had an infection in her leg which she has gone through treatment for and it is better and she feels better.
My father gave her her car keys on Friday. When I found out I went over on Saturday and took them away. She reluctantly gave them to me, but she gave them to me after a while of talking to her. I thought everything was okay.
Well today I called her to see how she was and I guess she changed her mind. She screamed at me, I mean really yelled at me and then hung up on me when I told her I wasn't giving back her keys.
I feel terrible, but I am not letting her drive. She can't even feel her feet. She is going to get hurt or hurt someone else.
She has never yelled at me like that. She was mean!

You did the right thing even though it might not seem like it to her.

I totally agree, and if I was in your shoes I would have done the same thing.
ETA: Kudos to your grandma for being able to drive this long!!!

Re: Grandma related, I feel terrible!
Tara, how often does she get out of the house? Does someone visit her everyday? You definitely did the right thing, but maybe she feels trapped going from living in the city where she could walk to everything to living out here where you can't catch a bus really or walk to all the stores. It probably isn't anger at you, but anger at being so helpless and reliant on all of you now.

Re: Grandma related, I feel terrible!
Update: I talked to Phil (DH) he is going to over and talk to her and try to smooth things over.
I called him really upset.
Hopefully it will help.

You did the right thing!! I know it's hard but you might have saved her life and someone elses. If she can't feel her feet or foot I can't imagine how she would drive.
She probably is having a hard time with her lose of independence but her life is too valuable and the lives of others to give up.

Re: Grandma related, I feel terrible!
you did the right thing. We are going through somethign very similiar with my grandfather. I think that he feels like he has lost a bit of his independence...and that is what makes it so hard.
