Greek moms-christening question

What church did you/do you plan to baptize your child at? Do you know if the godparents have to be Greek Orthodox as well and be in good standing with a church? I am freaking out because I have my baptism scheduled and I wanted my brother who is GO to baptize DS but I just got something in the mail that says he needs to be in good standing with a church -which he is not. I wasn't told this when I scheduled the baptism. I just emailed the church office but I am now having a panic attack. Thanks for any info/advice.

Kristina is being baptized at Holy Trinity in Hicksville, but I can't help you on the good standing thing. My sister will be her nona and my bff's husband will be her honorary godfather (he's catholic). My whole family is member to H.T., and in good standing.

I'm pretty sure that as long as he pays his "membership" he's in good standing. That the wasy St. D's in Astoria is.

I'm not Greek but we are very close with a Greek Orthodox family and have been to their DC christenings at the churches in Port Jefferson and Blue Point - their names are escaping me now.

That's kind of what I was thinking LOL! I hope it's that easy, I'm stressing.

Don't stress..... It will all work out. Just find out from the priest tomorrow what he has to do to be in good standing!

U'r welcome honey.... We have enough stress on our plates getting the martirika, the lambathes, the lathopanes... His issue with the church is probably a teensy tiny one!

Are both of your godparents GO?

Re: Greek moms-christening question

What church do you go to?

I remember when we christened my kids that the godparent had to be in good standing and GO. Depending on the priest and how strict he is, they may let you have another godparent that is not GO, but the one that is GO is the one that has to put the oil on the baby, etc.

Exactly.... I am having K baptized in Holy Trinity, and my sister is baptizing Kristina.... Father George said that her *godfather* is only going to be an honorary since he is Catholic, but in our eyes, he will be a full godfather. He adores her..... Chat Icon

That's the other thing! I want my bff to be the godmother but she isn't GO. I always thought that as long as 1 of the godparents was GO it would be OK. Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow after I speak to them. I don't know what I was thinking booking the baptism without asking these questions. I have too much going on, my head is up my azz!
