Grilled cheese...
Do you just slap a piece of cheese on bread and toast it? or do you make it with 2 pieces of bread in the frying pan?
Silly I know...

Not a silly question, I have never made or eaten a grilled cheese.
But I better learn before DS get a little older.
Also do you add butter to it??

Re: Grilled cheese...
Frying pan, and this is how I do it...
Butter one side and put that face down in the frying pan (or skillet works great too). Then put the cheese on that, and then the second piece of bread butter side up on the top. Brown one side and then flip until even.
I can't believe I am giving cooking advice. Must be a full moon

I put a little butter in the pan, do one side, then put a little more butter and do the other side.

Re: Grilled cheese...
I do both depending on the cheese. For american cheese I cook it in a frying pan butter on the bread as per the directions someone else posted on this thread.
For mozzarella cheese I slice the cheese and put it on two slice of bread and stick it in the toaster oven. When the cheese gets a little brown and bubbly I take it out and slap it together and cut in half.

I do this myself or I actually make most of my grilled cheese in the oven (I'm limited to having foods cooked in a frying pan) and I must say it always comes out very yummy.

Why is that bad? I was just looking for some new stuff. I was just throwing it in the toaster, even though I prefer it in the pan. DD is allergic to milk so I'm not sure how the milk free butter is going to do in the frying pan. I'll have to try it.

You're right, I guess I should try it because like you, I feel like I'm always giving the same thing

Re: Grilled cheese...
Actually I recently read that the best way to make a grilled cheese is with mayo instead of butter. I tried it and it is pretty good. I do it in a pan too.

Frying pan w/butter.
I also give DD cheese quesadillas from the frying pan. It's basically another form of grilled cheese.
