grrr insurance questions.. Empire
Ok so how the HELL do you know which "plan" you have with Empire. I went to the online site and it says my plan info is not available online. I called and they close at 4:30 so I couldnt ask them to send me a book even after I went through like 14 menus before they told me they were closed.
My card is blue eand says " The empire plan" on it. On the back it says something about me being goverment employee(NYSHIP) and also has the united healthcare symbol.
I want to know about the infertility coverage and so forth.
Can anyone offer me any insight?

Re: grrr insurance questions.. Empire
NYSHIP means you have United Healthcare for your medical insurance and Empire BlueCross BlueShield for your Hospital insurance ...The empire BCBS plan covers ONLY ER room charges and room and board. anything done IN the hospital is under United Healthcare.
I work for Empire BCBS.
There is no website for your plan through the hospital portion ( Empire BCBS).
You might have a website from United healthcare.
DO you have your benefit book?
If not, CALL and get it. If you are doing any IF treatments etc, you need to know and have proof of coverage.

Call the number on the back of your card during business hours. They will connect you with United Healthcare, who will explain your benefits in detail. They are very helpful and thorough...just make sure to call during business hours cuz I don't think they can really help you after hours. Also, plan on being on the phone for a while...I ended up doing it on my lunch hour.

Re: grrr insurance questions.. Empire
Ask them also if they will Pre approve any services or pre determine any. that would be good to get it in writing...

Thanks.. this makes so much more sense now that you explained the two separate ins. for the hos and reg. Thats what was confusing me on the back of the card!

Ditto!
For mine, the card is purple-ish/blue-ish andhas a NYS graphic in the background. I have $50,000 for IVF treatment and IUI and other services are unlimited. I don't need to get any pre-certifications for IUIs but I do need to get them for IVF.
