Guess who wants to go with us to our 1st U/S?
MIL
I know she means well and she is a very sweet MIL. But, "HELLO" this is very personal between a Husband and wife! My husband didn't think it was a big deal and in fact said that she was there for his nephews first sonos. Sorry Buddy, it AIN't happening with us!

Just tell her the doctor restricts the amount of people in the sonogram room (which they can) and that you don't feel comfortable because it is an internal sono.
I wouldn't want my MIL in there either.

I wouldn't let anyone but DH come to the 1st sono b/c it was an internal one. But my MIL, FIL and mom came to my 12 week one.

I told DH that even if my mom lived here, I wouldn't want her in there with us at least for the first one.
Question: my first u/s will be at 7 weeks b/c my RE is out of town before then. Will it still be an internal?

so annoying....my mom did that to me. She insisted that she come to my appointment. As we were all walking into the room, the nurse told me it was going to be an internal sonogram
with that, I sent my mom out to the waiting room......

I never understood the sense of entitlement that some mothers and MILs have in terms of their children's pregnancies. If there is an established and close relationship and it has been discussed, then by all means they should go. But to invite onesself or assume they are welcome, to me, is odd and presumptuous.
I made it a point to call my mother before she passed away and I continue to call my MIL after every appointment so they didn't worry and they felt like a part of the pregnancy. But they both knew boundaries.

Do you have MY MIL??
Avoid telling her when the appointment is so she will stop asking. We are close, but there is NO WAY I would let her in.
She also wanted to be IN the room when DD was born. Hmmm, let me think about that one ahh, NO!

I wouldn't mind either. I had my mom with us at the first one. I invited my boyfriends mom too but she was out of town that day. My mom got to see her first grandchild and she cried and cried and wouldn't stop smiling. She never had an ultrasound with me or my brother "back in the day" so she was just amazed. It made me happy knowing that I brought her such joy and it didn't take anything away or make it less special for me and my boyfriend.
But if you don't want her there, I like Janine's suggestion - tell her that you are limited to the number of people that can be in the room with you. GOOD LUCK!

1st sono- No. Just DH.
But consequent visits I really see no problems. I know I am the minority. My MIL never came with us but she never asked nor did I ask her too (Never really thought of it but looking back it would have been nice).
But my Mother was there for my level 2 (with my DH) and I couldn't have been any happier!
I have 2 kids now (A DD and a DS). I only pray and hope that one day I'll be asked to join the room with DDnd share in her joys and path to Motherhood.
I also have a DS and know that if EVER the day were to come and my DIL asked me to go with her, i think I'd break down into tears.
People around you are happy and want to share in your happiness. Unless you hate her, I see no issues with it. Your very lucky to have a sweet MIL. Just my 2 cents.

I told DH that she is invited to the 2nd, 3rd. But, that the first is very intimate and should be between us.
As for the internal, after what I have been through with IF, I am no longer modest when it comes to stuff like that. I don't even care if she is there for the internal....I just don't want her there for the 1st one. Glad, I am not alone. DH even said "I knew you were going to say that" If you did, then he should of said "no" right there and then.

My MIL came to mine- dh didnt know it was an internal sono, and when she asked him if she could come he figured I wouldnt mind and just said yes to pacify her..thanks honey!
She also begged, while I was in labor to stay in the room, I said no at least 20 times, and she kept asking over and over if she can stay and watch, because shes never seen it happen before...lol luckily I had a c section..she complained that she couldnt be in the room, and asked if there was some way she could still watch
