Guilt

How do you deal with it? Besides learn from it? How do you move on from it when you have to? Does it just take time? Or will it always be there?

How can you ever know if God forgives you for being ungrateful at times for life? Do you think it is forgivable?

Re: Guilt

For me, the first step is to accept it and realize that i'm not a perfect individual that is flawed and that has made some mistakes but that is trying to lead a better life.

The second step is forgiveness and to realize that sometimes as much as i wish i could control certain things, there are just certain things that i can't control and there was nothing that i could have done different.

It takes time but try not to be so hard on yourself and give yourself time to grieve.

Re: Guilt

What works for me is thinking about all the things that I did with/for my loved ones who are gone that don't warrant guilt. That kind of neutralizes it.

And just like Tany said, accept the things you can't control.

For me, that aspect of grief doesn't get any better with time. When I think about the things that make me feel guilty, I try to put a big stop sign up in my head when I let my mind go there.

I hope you find strength and feel better.

Re: Guilt

It is better as its not as raw, but I feel as though I have accepted this guilt and will "live with it" and DH and others feel its not the proper way to heal. I on the other hand, cannot see any other way to move on .

Re: Guilt

I still have incredible guilt that I didn't visit my Grandmother as much as I should have when she was well. I passed by her house each and every day to and from work. I could have done her shopping, her laundry etc but I didn't. I was in too much of a rush. I feel guilty every single dayChat Icon

It is not for us to ask why God does as He does.

At some point you come to understand why your life has taken the path that it has.

For me it took 15 years...When you understand the guilt fades.

Re: Guilt

I understand how you feel. The only way I make sense of this is to turn it around. I am a better person now than I was back then. I go out of my way to make my loved ones happy. I try and go the extra mile so they know how much I love them.

You can't go backward, but you can improve on how you go forward.

As for forgiveness, I don't know. I ask God for forgiveness for several things. Is it enough, I am not sure.

For me, I admit and understand that I have done wrong and I do my best not to repeat things like that. I do my best to be a good person. I have to believe God is ok with that.

I think EVERYONE is entitled to feel whatever they may feel, and that it's only human nature to take things for granted or feel ungrateful at times (despite the fact that you might think you should "KNOW" better).

I try not to be so hard on myself, know that it's normal to feel a moment or two of feeling ungrateful or frustrated, even when you feel you should be "above" those feelings. I hope you know what I am trying to say here.

I just think you are normal and as long as those feelings pass, then let yourself feel whatever comes naturally to you.Chat Icon

These words are SO true!

I lived with my guilt for 13 years and it wasn't until recently that I was finally able to make peace with it.

Time, IMO is what you need. It will eventually give you the clarity to see why the events in your life have happened and to accept them.

This process does not happen overnight.

Hang in there... Chat Icon
