Had a not great dr's appt for Jordan's torticollis today...
We saw Jordan's head specialist today. Last visit was seven weeks ago. Since the last visit, we were working on weaning him off the the TOT collar. About three weeks ago or so, I visibly noticed his tort take a turn for the worse. Really out of nowhere. He'd really been doing well and he suddenly had a noticeable tilt again. I don't know if it's due to teething or working on walking, but it's there. What's weird is he was pretty sick on his birthday and his neck looked fine. This started afterwards.
So, doctor wasn't happy. Wants to see us in a month. We need to get him neck xrays to make sure there is nothing wrong skeletally. He's willing to "give" us the reasoning that Jordan's working on walking now but if he doesn't see an improvement in a month, he wants to send him for Botox shots. I know this is a long way off but he also started talking about surgery at two if he still "actively" has tort. I am just sick to my stomach right now.

So sorry you are going through this! Very often kids who are learning how to crawl or walk will regress a little in their torticollis. Once he gets more comfortable walking he should start to improve again!

I'm not familiar wth tort, but I hope it was just a little setback and things will get back on the right track this month.

I'm so sorry, Miki Did they ever figure out why his tort was so severe? I will keep my fingers crossed that the walking is what's causing the tilt. I could totally see that happening or if he's getting teeth, I could see that happening, too. I'm thinking about you guys

hopefully in 1month it will get better and this is just a little setback.
have you seen a pediatric chiropractor? Im seeing a chiro now which I met through a wellness seminar at my job and they do treat a lot of children for different issues. at the seminar they mentioned birth traumas to the nervous system which can lead to colic and SIDs.
I dont know..before doing surgery maybe this is something you should look into?

im so sorry hon!! but I'm 99% positive it's just a new milestone. Ian did this all the time. just when i thought the tort was gone, he learned a new skill and was back to tilting. i would give it time before you do anything drastic!

Re: Had a not great dr's appt for Jordan's torticollis today...
Thank you guys so so much for the hugs and FMs. They are so appreciated. I've posted before about my displeasure with the PTs we've seen down here in FL and how our PT in NY (this past summer) was FABULOUS. I am going to look into a ped. chiro but right now, I can't imagine adding a chiro appt to our 2x a week PT appts (which we have to take him to, they don't come to the house.) I hate not being in NY and not having recs for people. I would never go and do surgery before exhausting every avenue. We work so so hard with him and home - bust our butts doing the exercises with him fighting them and crying and us distracting him with tv, etc. It just breaks my heart. The Dr. said it could be congenital and the neck muscles just grew shorter in utero (vs. shorter because he was cramped inside and they just need to be stretched.) If that's the case, no amount of stretching will help and he will eventually need surgery. I am so sick inside right now.
I know there are parents and babies out there who have severe health and medical problems and I truly count my blessings every day that I have such a wonderful and happy boy. But, between the tort, the reflux, milk allergies, stomach issues - I feel like this poor boy has not gotten a break. I can't even remember a week we've had that we're not running to PT or a dr's appt. I'm just so tired of this for him and for us :(

Hang in there and I hope that there is some additional help for him. I think its just a milestone....I was told that this happens and can set them back.
Im a mom of a tort child as well....and ours is pretty severe.
