It's negative. I was really surprised because I knew that I had a direct, prolonged exposure in the beginning of March.

They told me there are Covid positives who are testing negative for antibodies so it's possible I had them and dumped them but we will never know. My DH just got his results back today and he's negative too so I just think that is doubtful for me.

Hearing the results made me call into question several things.

Is this virus truly as contagious as they say? Because if it is, there is NO WAY I could have avoided catching it from this colleague.

I also wondered if it's possible that I am immune to it somehow. I am truly perplexed how I didn't pick up the virus that day.

It made me think that the anitbodies are not as reliable as people are hoping.

Re: Had my antibody test!

Yeah, antibodies develop differently in everybody. Just because it was negative, doesn't mean you didn't have it. My friends kid is like that with immunizations. He got fully vaccinated but the antibodies never developed for a bunch of them. My niece only had one dose of the MMR but has full antibodies, so she never has to get the 2nd shot.

Our family all got sick a few months ago. I've been saying all along we've all had the virus already. I'm getting the antibody test this week. My brother got his test last week and just found out he's positive for the antibodies. We were sick at the same time, my respiratory infection developed into full blown pneumonia. I don't know why but confirmation will make me feel better.

Did you actually have any illness symptoms?

Not everyone gets sick from being around someone who is sick though. I've said this before, but I was really ill in a hotel room with my kids for a week. Neither of them ended up sick. Your immune system for sure could've just fought it.

My DH is an essential worker in NYC so I was thinking out of everyone he was at high risk of catching it... he worked with people who tested positive as well... he got his antibody test and it came back negative.

Re: Had my antibody test!

I also had the antibody test and it said I was negative. I KNOW I had this virus in early February. I had so many of the symptoms for weeks. I literally had a very hard time breathing, I was up all night coughing, my throat was killing me, my body was exhausted, and just recently I learned that I had been closely exposed to someone just before this who had Covid. I did read about many people who actually tested positive for Covid months ago, and now just tested negative for antibodies! So it could happen. I guess it doesn't matter anyway, it's not like you get any special privileges for having antibodies. I just thought it would be nice to know that I have some immunity.

was he tested and it came up negative.

my dad got it (they wouldnt test him at the time but he def had it.) he had it bad couldnt breath couldnt move but refused to go to the hospial and recovered at home my mom developed a cough and thats it.

this was in march they have both have been tested now and are negative for covid 19. they both got tested for antibodies and both have antibodies!

my cousin had it lives with other family besides her DH and 2 kids basically everyone tested positive for it but her 2 year old (maybe 3 i forget how old he is) son didnt get it or it was her 13 year old DD that didnt get it.

either way one of them didnt get though the rest tested positive

ETA: dont know if they got anitbodies down my point was that its possible to be exposed and not actually get covid 19

Do you know which test they used? Roche and Abbott are supposed to be the most reliable right now.

I also tested negative and was surprised and disappointed. I was very sick in early march right before everything shut down. I had almost every symptom. My daughter also had the same thing but my husband and son had mild colds only. I guess we had some other virus and not covid.

I actually don't know. I went to a ProHealth Urgent Care.

To answer questions, no, I did not have any symptoms at all after 3/3 but I was also convinced I would have antibodies because I thought I had it in February. I was so sick and had so many of the exact same symptoms and then I got over it. Guess not!

Had my antibody test!

I guess it’s the same as the flu.

I’ve had the flu and 1 of my kids caught it....but my DH and other DD didn’t. And that’s living in the same house, and me continuing to do most things despite having the flu.

Yes. Has happened in our house so many times. One person sick as a dog, the others fine.

Re: Had my antibody test!

There’s a disclaimer after the result that states how it can be a false positive for COVID-19 due to previous exposure to another corona virus or similar virus anytime in someone’s life, and also that it could be a false negative because someone can be currently sick with covid or recently recovered but not long enough to have developed reportable antibodies.

What is the purpose of testing for antibodies? It seems like the tests aren't accurate so why even bother at this point and if they do work and people did have it they no longer have the antibodies so can't they just get it again?

And I am just watching the news that the WHO is now saying that just because you may have had it doesn't mean you are immune.

Where is everyone going to get tested? Are you in a waiting room with people who are sick? Or are they doing it in a way that you’re not around anyone?

I haven't gotten the antibody test, but when I went to Pro Health for the Covid Test a while back, you stayed in your car, the nurse came out to you, checked you in. Then you waited in your car and they called you when they were ready and you were escorted inside. Only one patient at a time inside.

My husband went to City MD. They had spaced out seating so you could socially distance.

My son husband and I were tested at PM pediatrics. You called when you got there and they told you when to come in. Husband went by himself and came out. Then i took my son in and when he was done went out handed him to my husband and then I went back in and got tested and we left. No waiting room in and out the whole thing took less than 15 minutes including getting blooded from a 4 year old screaming bloody murder while I tried to keep a mask on him.

Re: Had my antibody test!

My mom tested positive for antibodies She had a mild case last month. Started with a loss of taste and smell for over 2 weeks and one day she had a 99 fever.
She also was sick in middle of February with a bad cold/cough. No fever

My mom is 63 and has diabetes, high blood pressure and had cancer which she still takes a drug for.

I feel like people need to hear that if you have underlying conditions it doesn’t mean death. My mom lives in queens.

Had my antibody test!

I just got my antibody test result back yesterday - Negative. And truthfully, I am so surprised. I was so sick back in late February/early March. Exhaustion, cough, fever, body aches and exposed to someone that passed This was before Covid was full blown and did go to urgent care and tested negative for the flu - seriously, what could I have had? I do not understand any of this

You could have had any number of other viruses.
I was the sickest I have ever been in my life about 5 years ago. Close to 104 fever, felt like death. They were sure it was flu... they even prescribed Tamiflu while we waited for the flu test to come back (it was sent out). They called 2 days later saying it was not flu.
So many viruses present like this.
Corona virus is not the only game in town- despite what everyone wants to believe

Yep, viruses are always going to be around and they are going to mutate and can present similarly.

Had my antibody test!

My coworker's DH had Covid-19 and she did not get it and neither did their two young children. She is also immunocompromised. Just because you are in close proximity to someone does not mean you will get it.
