Had to say goodbye last night

And I can't stop crying. Our ali has had deteriorating health for a while, but she was suddenly struggling to breathe and had lost total function in her back legs. I came home from work and DH told me we had to go to the vet. I went to sit with her and I could see. She was having a really hard time. I think we both knew. the worst part was waiting at the vet to hear what he said. He said it was almost definitely neurological with an extremely slim chance she would get any function back in her legs, and that the breathing trouble might or might not be related, but that it's really about her quality of life. Which we knew. I think we all knew it was time but it was just so hard. We we were with her at the end and I know that was the right thing to do, soothing her but I just feel terrible. I feel like I will never feel good again. I just miss her so much and I can't stop crying. I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that I will never be with her again. I know it was the right time but it just felt so sudden. I have been trying to look at pictures of her all morning at happier times, and remember those times, and I think it's helping a little bit, but she was just such a big part of our lives. I know DH is hurting too, we sobbed together for a while. She was his dog first and the first dog either of us has ever had. She was such a good dog, so sweet and mischievous and loving. I know I will love her forever.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ali.

DH and I lost our dog, Nikki, a few months ago so I know how awful it is. Each day will get better. Just make sure to do something together to cheer you up.

Thanks guys. I know it was right it's just really hard. I have never really lost a pet before, when I was a kid I had some hamsters but it's just not the same (plus that was like 20 years ago). Ali has been a part of our lives for the entire time I have known DH. He got her when he was 16 and we have been dating since we were 17. She was with us on our wedding day, she was with us when we moved in together, she was with us when we bought our home. She was there for our first christmas together and all of them thereafter. Now here we are at 28 and we knew it was coming but it's just hard. So many good times we have had with her and I know that is what we will treasure. Thanks again.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. Heartbreaking .. Im so sorry .. I cannot imagine the hurt you guys are going through. Our dogs are our kids .. we love them so much.

I'm so sorry. Your post brought tears to my eyes! I know how difficult it is to loose a dog. It will get better with time just remember she will always be with you.

What a beauty I know you feel so down right now, like things will never be good again, but they will. Give yourself some time. You did the kindest thing you could for her even though it was the hardest thing for you. I am so sorry for your loss
