Half marathon week before and week after....
Hey guys - can you advise me on what to do this week and next week?
Sunday - I ran 7.4 mi
I did not work out yesterday
This morning I did spin, but kept it on the lighter side (usually I push myself)
Weds (tomorrow) - I have to teach 2 Zumba classes - but one is very low key because it is for special needs adults
What should I do Thurs and Fri?
Saturday morning I teach Zumba - it is for special needs teens but they get a regular class because they are all fit, so it will be somewhat of a workout for me....
Also - do I really need to eat pasta the next few days? I am not a big pasta eater, and really don't feel like "carbing" up that way - can I just eat regularly? I feel it has been working for me so far...
The morning of, I was going to have a whole wheat bagel with almond butter - it fueled me so well for the 10K earlier this month....
What should i do next week after the half? I don't want to take a full week off, so I was thinking of doing some walking and upper body weight workouts? Would that work for the week after the race?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Half marathon week before and week after....
You do not have to eat pasta. Any carb that sits well w/ you will do. Since you are working out Sat, I would take off on Fri. Maybe on Thurs go for an easy, slow 2-mile run.
Day of race - only rule, NEVER try anything new...no new foods...whatever worked for you in the past, stick with it!! So if that bagel works for you, all set.
For next week, it sometimes help to walk even the day of the half - meaning, when you get home, if you are up to it, walk around. And walk around after you finish, even if it's just to the car, it helps loosen up the legs. I usually try to walk or do an easy jog the next day - nothing crazy....again, just to loosen up. I typically do not run until Wed or Thurs after the week. Before then, if I'm up to it, I will do some other lower impact exercise. Spinning is also great to loosen up after a race.
Have fun and good luck!

Thank you Erica!!!
I am indebted to you for always being there and giving me much needed advice!!!
If the weather is nice on the day of the race, I'm hoping the family and I can get to Huntington to go to the tulip festival and the sheep to shawl festival - so I hope that can count as walking!!!
Think spin Tues Am after the race would be a good idea? A recovery ride?

Re: Half marathon week before and week after....
ITA with runlike the wind (so I'll take the thank you )
down to running a slow easy 2 miles on Thursday. really try not to do too much at zumba...you don't want your legs to be heavy on sunday.
and no need for pasta. You have enough glycogen stored in your muscles for 20 miles. topping it off the morning with the whole wheat and a little sports drink during the race will be fine.
I take a few days off and then try to get back into a routine or I can easily get distracted.
