Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
How do you introduce someone to your family that's not your biological mother or father. And that also goes for you brother or sister. Same mother/father but different father/mother.
Do you say this is my Sister/Brother or Half....
My Mother/Father or Step....

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I introduce my step parents by their first names(like "this is my dad's wife Jeni"). I introduce my 7 year old half brother as just my little brother.

I do the same except I will also say "step-mother." For the siblings, I usually don't say "step-" or "half-" unless someone asks for clarification.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
In our family any clarification of "half" sibling is a huge no no. We find it insulting and demeaning.
If introductions are necessary my girls will introduce my DH as their Stepfather/Stepdad. Because they have such a wonderful relationship it's as if the "step" part of the equation is almost an honorary title, something to be held in high regard.

DH as well.
He calls his sisters his sisters and his brother his brother. There is no difference between them (they have a different mom) and his "full" sister (with both of the same parents)
When introducing, DH actually calls his step mom his mom. She and MIL will never be in the same place at the same time nad its just easier now. She calls DH her son too and further, my DS her grandson
DH's father is deceased, and it was a rocky road to get to this point, but we love it!

I refer to my stepfather as my stepfather but if I am introducing him with my mom, I say my parents bc I find it easier.

You know...I never realized this before now.
My girls will introduce DH and I as their parents when we are together..
If their bio father is their as well for what ever reason they will still introduce DH and I as their parents as well.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I refer to my step father either as my step father or first name - most people close to me know he is my step father so his first names is fine. But if I am referring to my mom and him together I will just say my parents because my father isn't in my life so it's just easier! For my step brother/sister - usually step bro/sis
for my half brother - we have the same father, different mothers - my brother.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I have 5 half siblings and 1 full sibling -- I would never EVER refer to the half siblings as "Hey this is my half brother..."
As far as I'm concerned, they are all my brothers and sisters, half or not.
My sister refers to my mom as her stepmom.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
Honestly I refer to myself as an only child. I have a half brother and half sister but we are not close. They never lived with us and didnt talk to us for years. Only recently have they "come around" and if someone asks I will tell people they are my half.
If I have to introduce them to someone its as my brother and sister but everyone knows the situation.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I have 2 half-brothers, a half-sister and a step-brother as well as a "full" brother and sister. I have never refered to them as half or step when talking about them or introducing them. If clarification is needed I explain the situation, I know it can get confusing.
If my step-mother is alone I will introduce her as my step-mother, but I hate calling her that. She has known me since I was born (she used to work with my dad) and at times has been a better mother than my mom. If she is with my dad I will introduce them as my parents. And it's pretty much the same thing with my step-dad when introducing him.
My parents got divorced when I was 5 years old and I don't know my life any different and I wouldn't want it to be different!

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I have a "full" sister and a half brother. I never refer to him as my half brother though - he's my brother. My mother's husband is just that - her husband, not my step-father. They live in another state though with my brother so it's not like I introduce them to anyone. My Dad isn't remarried so I don't have to worry about it for now.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
My SD will introduce me as her step mom and I have overheard her on the phone referring to me as her step mom. I've also known her since she was really little. I don't know if I had met her when she was older if I would be her "dad's wife". I know my 30 something co-worker calls her new step dad "my mom's husband". Even though she has a good relationship with him, I guess she doesn't see him as a "dad" in any capacity.
When we talk about a future family, my SD always says that she can't wait to have a brother or sister. No halves mentioned.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
My half sisters and brothers are my sisters and brother, my step mom is my step mom when introduced or spoken about. I will sometimes if talking clarify that my sister is my half sister, b/c I was raised as an only child mostly by my Mother so in some circles its not understood.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
My older brother is actually my half brother, but since my dad adopted him before I was born I've never known him as anything other than "my brother." In fact, most of the time I forget he is not my full brother!

We don't distinguish between half and full siblings, but do specify step-relationships.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
I have (2) half sisters and (1) half brother and (1) Full Brother, but I treat them all the same and love them all very much. We have the same mom, but they decided to have no relationship with their father, so they always called my dad,"DAD". I really couldn't imagine calling them half, they are all so special in my life.

Re: Half Sister/Brother Step Mother/Father
Since my dad remarried when I was 30 - I just call his wife..my dad's wife sharon
Her sons- are just sharon's son...but my step brother
But if me and one of her sons are talking - we might refer my dad and sharon as the parents

I introduce/call my father's wife by her first name.
My mother's husband, I refer to him as just that. I don't care for him and have no releationship with him.
