DH thought it was dumb, but I'm doing this. If someone takes all the candy, they take it all, I certainly don't want to wind up eating all of it!Chat Icon

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

we did this last year and will do it this year since I wont' get home until 645pm. It worked out well, but we're in a townhouse community and its mostly our neighbors.

We do this. I reserved half for when we get home. (Which we're also going out again, so I'll just refill the bucket outside.) I have to think that the little kids will be around early afternoon before the teenagers are out of class, so at least they will get their candy.

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

We do this every year b/c we live on the 2nd floor and don't really want to run downstairs every time there is a trick or treater there.

Also I don't get home until about 7pm.

It worked out the past couple of years, even without a sign that says "please take one" Chat Icon

Doing it for the first time this year since I won't get home until 5. I only put out a small bit and will replenish when I get home.

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

My neighbors across the street did this last year b/c they weren't going to be home for the younger kids. Since my kitchen is in the front of the house, I was able to watch the kids. I have to say, I think it worked out well for who it was intended for...the little kids. They generally are courteous and take what they should (or the parents are their to observe.) Usually the teens come around later, so candy swiping isn't such a big concern.

DH got home from work, and there was still a bunch of candy left.

Apparently the kids where I live are respectful Chat Icon

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

So I just got home and all my candy was gone, and it was loaded with all sorts of other candy. I put out more.

Not sure if
a) the people downstairs like my candy better and traded
or
b)mine was gone and downstairs refilled

I'll probably never find out!

We put the candy on the stoop if we aren't home or if we are eating dinner.

OK I'm confused. Chat Icon

We put out lollipops. Got home, all the lollipops are gone, but the sticks were cut in half and the bottom half of the sticks were left in the box.

What does this mean - is it like cutting the head of the animal and putting it on the stoop? Are we doomed? Chat Icon

Also, how did these kids cut the sticks. It's a tootsie roll lollipop. the sticks are thick. I tried cutting one with a pair of scissors and I couldn't do it. Are these kids carrying around knives or wire cutters? Chat Icon

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

I wouldn't do it because I have seen kids going to town on the bowl. I always make my kids only take one.

Re: Halloween candy on the stoop

I was home today giving out candy, i had to beg the trick or treaters to take a handful of candy and to take what they wanted and as much as they wanted.

I bought alot of candy, 3 bags with 125 pieces in each, and all my favorite things, twix, reeses, snickers, whoppers, hersheys, yorks...you get the idea

And now i am stuck with a TON of candy.

I know the parents tell them to take one, but i was like please take more and they wouldnt.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have to say, they all said thank you, and were very appreciative which was very nice.
