Hands down worst mommy ever award for today
So I loaded Ellie in Dh's car, my nice new modern car is in the shop and this is our 10+yr old clunker. she's belted in her seat, diaper bag with all my belongings is in front passenger seat and then I go to close passenger door and I depress the lock on the door only to get around to the driver's side door and realize I never opened it  and there I am looking at my keys sitting on the driver's seat. House is locked, car is locked, toddler is in it! I have no keys, no phone, nothing! We have a spare key to the car in the house -UGH! Thank G*d all the stars and planets aligned for us this morning and I looked accross the street and my neighbors were home so I knocked on their door to use their phone to call DH who called my Aunt who has a spare house key for ours and she also was home thank goodness and only 5 min away and she came over to unlock the house. I was so freaked over Ellie being trapped meanwhile Ellie was cool as a cucumber with no idea anything was wrong. Not my best mommy moment for sure.

You are definitely not the only mom that's done this.
My cousin had to call the police to open her doors because she was in FL & the baby was in the car!

we all have been there! When we 1st moved into our house we went for a walk and I locked the garage door, but we had no keys with us no phone, no family here to call, no diaper bag, no water.....and it was august!!!!
Luckily our neighbors cleaning person was home and let us in to call a locksmith. I never did that again! We needed a locksmith to change our locks anyway, but that was not the way I wanted to find one.

this would totally happen to me on a regular basis if I didn't own a prius (the car refuses to lock its doors if the sensor is inside the car)
that feature is my saving grace.... it prevented chaos at least a half dozen times over the last 2 years....

This is so true! I also know someone that had this happen. I can ONLY imagine the panic involed...

I know from experience how scared you must have been.
I locked my DD in a running car last summer (AC was on, thank goodness!). I was in the parking lot of a restaurant...no extra keys...no one to call who has keys. So...the police had to come to open the door for me. She slept through most of it...but I felt really stupid and scared.
Glad to hear everything worked out for you!
