If you thought you had the WORST mommy award.... you got nothing on me!!
During "roughplay" this week, DS started crying like something was hurting him. You know... the 10 seconds no breathing, then the hysterical cry and tears. I did not know what I did. It was during his ABA session. He was holding my fingers. He was leaning backwards then forwards. I heard his wrist pop. 1 hour later he was still not allowing me to touch his wrist. So I called the Ped. It was already 5pm. Luckily they told me to come immediately. He cried when I put his coat on.
Then we arrived to the ped, and I see he started using his hand again. So the Ped looks at it. Evaluates both arms/hands. He told me I most likely dislocated his elbow but it probably popped back in when I put the jacket on.
So I guess I AM the worst mommy in the World this week.

NO!!! These things happen. My fiend did it to her daughters shoulder. She felt aweful about it too, but it was an accident. And it pops right back into place and that's the end of it.

This sounds like nursemaid's elbow to me...and although you won't feel better cause you're his mommy, it is VERY COMMON...
You're the 3rd person I've heard (two being good friends) who have had this happen to their DC...and all by the mommies...
It could have happened to anyone!!!!! Try not to be too hard on yourself!!

Sophie! You are NOT the worst mom...quite the opposite!
This is such a common thing - last time our ped saw Lucas running around he warned us that the elbow is easily dislocated in young children and just to be aware...obviously Lucas is a maniac and the doctor felt the need to offer this up  From what I understand as soon as the elbow pops back it's fine.

It's happened to a number of friends' kids. Wrists, elbows, shoulders.
BTW the worst mom in the world wouldn't have called a pediatrician or even cared about her poor son's wrist.

DS has done this twice now. It's called Nursemaid's Elbow. both times we had to go to the ER. Second time (which was only like 2 weeks ago) he actually popped it in himself in the waiting room.
Both times we have no idea what caused it. It's so common. Please don't be hard on yourself. You just now need to be extra careful with pulling his arms. They do grow out of it!

Don't beat yourself up over it. My DD had that happen a few times. It's called nursemaids elbow.

my son reached into a laundry basket full of clothes and pulled it out and dislocated his elbow.. it used to happen to him fairly often when he was about 2.. now he's 10 and has no problems.. i wouldnt beat yourself up about it!

No you are not the worst mommy at all. I popped my son's nursemaid's elbow a few months ago too. I couldn't sleep for days after it cuz I felt so bad.

You wanna hear awful?!?!? I did it to a 2 year old in daycare when I first started working there when I was 18!!!
I helped her get up off the floor, pulled her arm right out of the socket. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!! I had to explain to the parent and I was crying. She said that it happened a lot at home and that it was an accident that can easily happen.
When my sister was 2...my mom pulled her jacket off, dislocating her shoulder while doing it. It happened TWICE!!!
It happens. Happy to know hes ok!!

Nope you don't get the worst mommy award. This is too common. My sister had it. She popped it out so often the doctor just showed us how to pop it back in.
