HAPPY UPDATE 6/4/08: The things we do for love...Spinoff to the Jones Beach topic
Ok, So DH's favorite band is RUSH and they are playing at Jones beach 7/19. His b-day is the end of July. For his b-day I was thinking of getting him the tix.
When we were dating I went with him to a RUSH concert and HATED IT!!! I CANNOT stand this band. Seriously, I believe they are the WORST band ever. BUT DH loves them. So here's my dilemma...
arrange babysitting w/my MIL (who lives on LI) and sleep over there that night and go with him
or
buy a ticket for a friend to go with him and line up one of his friends to go. I would arrange a guys night out and I know he would have fun.
Thing is I really cannot stomach RUSH for two hours or more. I know I must sound like the biggest B!tch right now, but I DID go once to a RUSH concert w/him and he could tell I hated it. I cannot do it again. It is not my type of music at all, but I would go if DH really wanted me to go with him.
UGH. I really want to get him these tix b/c I know he would LOVE to go, KWIM?
TIA for the honest answers here. Oh, if there are any guys online, I would love your take on this...would you want your DW to go with you if you KNEW she would be MISERABLE???
ETA: RUSH and YES are the ONLY two bands we really disagree about. If U2 was playing it would be a no-brainer for me to go.
**HAPPY UPDATE 6/4/08**:
My dad is coming up from Florida for father's day weekend. RUSH is playing the Sat before father's day in Philly. Dad and DH are HUGE RUSH fans so I offered to pay for the tickets for the two of them to go together! Solves two father's day gifts, now I do not have to go (WHOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!! ) and DH and dad get some "bonding time". Plus it is on a Saturday night and father's day is the next day. We will grill at home on Sunday so it is the best time for them to go. Win, win, win, win! Now, I look like a HERO not a beeyoch...I love it when a good plan comes together!

I would purchase two tickets and let him decide who he wants to go with.
I assume he already knows you're not a fan (at all) of Rush, so it's not like you want to go to begin with.
If anything you could always celebrate his birthday on a different day.

I don't get it. Sorry, I don't mean to insult anyone here. The lead singers voice to me is like nails on a chalkboard...

My DH would never expect me to sit through anything I disliked that much. That being said, I'd still get him the tickets, if he was that passionate about Rush and ask him to choose someone else to go with.

I was the last time we went. 
Ok, but in my defense, he did tell me FOR DAYS before the concert that the RUSH concert will be THE BEST concert I have EVER been to, how the guitar player is the best I will ever hear, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I get there and I am like  . You have GOT to me kidding me. I was "that girl" However, I did sit there with a smile on my face b/c DH was in AWE like a little kid.

Rush is either take it or leave it. I love not waiting to have to wait for the ladies room when I go see them LOL. Hardly any girls are ever into them.

Definitely get one of his guy friends to go. He's not going to enjoy himself if you are miserable. Even if you pretend to be OK at the concert, he'll know that he'll "owe" you for that concert for the rest of his life.... Give him a "guys nite out", and he'll have a great time, and you can do something you enjoy that he doesn't like. That way, everyone is happy...

Yeah...so true. there was maybe 25 women at the show we went to.

I LOVE IT! Thank you for an honest guys perspective. Although the idea of him owing me sounds pretty good...

A concert is something that is more enjoyable when you are with people who like the band as much as you do. I'd say leave it up to him, or plan the guy's night out.

The crowds at Rush shows are so funny. I went last year (and am going this year) and it was 90% middle-aged guys.
I say get him the tickets and let him go with his friends, and then do something special (just the two of you) that you will both enjoy.
DH and I do not agree on music at all--Rush is the only show we could go to together.

EXACTLY!!! It was a little uncomfortable. All of could see were 40 somethings single guys that crawled away for their xbox or their online pursuits and out of their parents basement for the evening.
(I kid, I kid )
Oh yeah and the smell of pot was everywhere.
All I kept thinking is WHY does he like THIS band? My brother said that A LOT of guys (Including him) and some girls are HUGE RUSH fans but do not go to the concerts.
