I would purchase two tickets and let him decide who he wants to go with.
I assume he already knows you're not a fan (at all) of Rush, so it's not like you want to go to begin with.
If anything you could always celebrate his birthday on a different day.

I voted guys night out then do something just the two of you.
I can sympathize. RUSH is the worst band on the planet and you should not be subjected to them even for the love of your life.
Go in peace knowing your ears will be spared the h e l l that is Geddy Lee's voice.

this is funny.
my uncle is a HUGE Rush fan. I HATTTTE them. we grew up together in the same house (he's only 6 years older than me) and I ALWAYSS make fun of him.
when they were here last he bought 2 tickets and dragged his poor wife with him...she went b/c he had no one else to go with, but had he had another friend to enjoy it with, he'd probably have liked it better.
there are very few things dh and I disagree on.
I have never forced him to come see a concert he wouldn't enjoy, and I don't think he would either. it's better for all involved if you are at a place together that BOTH of you can enjoy!

ETA: did anyone ever see the video when they are in the Canadian snow...I think it's for the Spirit of Radio! OY Geddy Lee is FUGALICIOUS!
the only song I can partially tolerate is Tom Sawyer. and even then...it's hard
EFTS: Neil Pert is an excellent drummer. one of the only "rock" drummers my dad has ever liked.

Oh can I relate to this.
I scream in pain whenever Rush comes on the radio.
DH has approimately 3,761 of their CDs.
I took them off the ipod shuffle because I hated when they came up.
All their songs are 18 years long. 
Let him go with his friends. Enjoy the silence.

Just go and do it for him! I have seen countless bands that my husband loves and he has seen countless that I love! Hope for nice weather, get a drink, and relax. It won't kill you.
Rush are okay actually...very ahead of their time!

I wish I had advice, but I am in the same boat you are. Rush is DH's absolute favorite band, and I know I'm going to get dragged there. The way I figure it is that I get to use this as ammo later when I want tickets to something!

I CANNOT stand this band. Seriously, I believe they are the WORST band ever.
I could not agree more. I told DH that if I were ever in a horrible accident and they were deciding if they should pull the plug on me that they should play rush to determine if I were truly dead. Because, if I were alive, I'd react violently to stop that awful sound. DH agreed with the plan.

Thanks everyone for supporting me in my hatred for all things RUSH.
So I will line up a friend before I buy the tix. DH's friends rarely go out on a "school night" so this is gonna be tough. Wish me luck and Pray I find a good friend of his for him to go with otherwise, I may end up at the concert. (insert puke icon here)

My dad is coming up from Florida for father's day weekend. RUSH is playing the Sat before father's day in Philly. Dad and DH are HUGE RUSH fans so I offered to pay for the tickets for the two of them to go together! Solves two father's day gifts, now I do not have to go (WHOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!! ) and DH and dad get some "bonding time". Plus it is on a Saturday night and father's day is the next day. We will grill at home on Sunday so it is the best time for them to go. Win, win, win, win! Now, I look like a HERO not a beeyoch...I love it when a good plan comes together!
