I'm not even joking

Fun fact: He made more in one day last year ($17,192) than one of his full time minimum wage workers made in a whole year ($15,130).

Can Ashton PLEASE come out now!!!??!!

And he was another top fundraiser donor, just like Linda McMahon.

Ok.. admitting ignorance here. Explain the swamp connection.

Other than I hate carl's junior food and never been a huge fan of Hardees. Then again quality of food isn't a vote of political connection long term swamp status in my mind.

I still say I didn't hear draining the swamp until way at the end of the campaign and yet it is all I hear now (mostly from the opposing side actually). Most people who get close to that on the trump side say they wanted him because he was going to shake things up and not have status quo in Washington. Based on the reactions every single person he picks, good bad or ugly I'd say that's what happened. But this swamp thing to me seems to imply that people think he was going to stay away from lobbyists and long term political ties. I see that isn't happening in a lot of his picks. Although when it does the complaint is they don't have enough experience? Or in the case of Mathis it's just not right? But I digress...

But this guy.. someone help me connect the dots. How does a fast food / bad food restaurant mogul equal swamp?

I'd like to be educated and at least understand where you guys are coming from.

All I know is his bad food and his hate of raising the minimum wage. That's it.

It's the fact that his whole campaign was run with the idea that he is an "outsider" who will bring new people in to his administration. This is not what is happening. He is choosing people who donated enormous amounts of money to his campaign and his foundation. It's the same "pay for play" garbage that people skewered HRC over. His transition team is comprised of lobbyists, loyalists, and yes people.

This Carl's Jr. CEO isn't new to Washington. He was a consultant for Romney in 2012 and is just as intertwined in the political world as any other DC insider. That is just adding to the "swamp", not draining it.

For me, a lot of it has to do with the total hypocracy of it all. Everything he is doing is everything that he accused Clinton of doing. He has only filled half his cabinet and already their total worth is around $14 billion dollars. And these people are going to care about working families? Pudzer is against a minimum wage increase, against overtime protections and supports replacing workers with machines. How would that work out in a positive way for those working families?

The "drain the swamp" phrase comes from his campaign site directly:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/trump-pledges-to-drain-the-swamp

It is time to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C.

That is why I am proposing a package of ethics reforms to make our government honest once again.

First: I am going to institute a 5-year ban on all executive branch officials lobbying the government after they leave government service.

Second: I am going to ask Congress to institute its own 5-year ban on lobbying by former members of Congress and their staffs.

Third: I am going to expand the definition of lobbyist so we close all the loopholes that former government officials use by labeling themselves consultants and advisors when we all know they are lobbyists.

Fourth: I am going to issue a lifetime ban against senior executive branch officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.

Fifth: I am going to ask Congress to pass a campaign finance reform that prevents registered foreign lobbyists from raising money in American elections.

Yeah I saw his position. I don't know if he's good for working families or not. I really don't know. Frankly I don't think anyone Trump chose would have made anyone here happy. Honestly. So it's not like I could say "Well so and so would be better" because I have no suggestions. I can't say who would be worse, either.

You know?

This whole thing needs to end already.

This guy/girl is connected to someone who said something a decade ago

All I can think is

Seriously HORRFIC hamburgers

I used to go to one here for biscuits for breakfast.. cheapest place for a quick stop. Finally my coworker convinced me to stop in for hamburger. Um.. yeah.. no. It was a greasy fry but the place was GHETTO bad. Plus the burger had cold spots. It was just bad. Then my $1 biscuit got more expensive. Frankly the only think I liked was it had cherry coke I believe. Whatever the draw, I finally just got over it. Not worth it.

ETA: funny thing is some people love them and put them up against In and Out Burger

It's all East Coast vs West Coast Burger.. oooh, ahhh.. while most of us just stick with a Texas original cause both are yucky. Though 5guys ain't half bad. hahaha

I'm just glad we have a Johnny Rockets I missed that when I moved down (never thought I'd say that).

It was also a chant along with lock her up at a lot of his rallies! Nothing new and most definitely not just from the opposing side.

This is true that if you get to that height in politics you are probably not middle class.

However, many were - or even worse off - at some point.

Bill Clinton grew up dirt poor and Hillary was middle class.

Someone with roots like that can at least have the potential to empathize and then translate their empathy into action.

I can also agree that every politician has to deal with competing interests. However, there is no denying that some are CLEARLY more helpful to the "average Joe" than others: FDR and the New Deal, Johnson and the Great Society, Obama and ARRA and ACA.

Obama's 2009 extension of unemployment benefits saved me and several other people I know when my long term but non permanent job ended and I could not find something in my field for some time. Trump would NEVER do anything like that. And before someone says he's going to bring back jobs so people don't need unemployment, I contend that he will not. His plan is faulty, and others and I have posted why several times.

Joe Biden as well- granted he was not POTUS but he came from very humble beginnings and his family wasn't often stable financially. It's something that still influences him.

I am pretty cynical at this point. I am sure they will say they're going to bring back jobs but there will be even bigger perks for CEOs which the taxpayer funds. The Carrier deal was just the beginning.

I, too, benefitted from the unemployment extension in 2010. The sad thing is, the GOP saw it as government welfare and insisted it was simply keeping people from going out and getting a job. Meanwhile, none of them were actually out there seeing how few good jobs were available. I'm sure some people took advantage of it, but people do that with anything. So, their solution was to stop it for everyone? Even the people who were legitimately looking for jobs? It made no sense.

Trump railed against "the elites" in order to suck up to the poor and working class people and now he is filling his cabinet with people who are just as elite as he is and those people will suffer.

Ding ding ding.

I have a friend who is a single mother, gets no child support, makes peanuts to the point she and her daughter can't afford to NOT live with her mother and she voted for Trump because of his claims that he would bring back the middle class.

What is the first thing that comes out? How his tax plan will hurt single parents tremendously.

It's really a shame.

It all needs to end already??? Everything you "hear" is true! Choosing people with no experience, those who have played in the swamp their entire lives, and those who operate from a place of ignorance and/or superiority. His ENTIRE candidacy was based on being an outsider. And now the only people he is surrounding himself with are those who can pay to be a part of his sandbox - that is NOT "clearing the swamp" - it is inviting all the big alligators right in.

You don't hear the double standard in your comment? All those same statements apply to HRC as well but she needs to be executed and he needs to be understood and given a chance. And many of his own supporters are actually the ones upset he isn't draining the swamp as he promised, it isn't just the other side and it isn't just on here. I don't see the double standard
HRC never said she'd drain the swamp.
How is anything said about Trump a double standard to HRC these days. I think they are worlds different. That's what the voters wanted.

Be careful what you wish for..

I don't know who HRC would have eventually chosen for her cabinet. I do know I probably would have had about the same reaction. Lets watch. There's always been hate for each side no matter what.

I heard Obama being called a dictator for 8yrs (among other things). But here we are again.

What I would like to see is the end of all the name calling period. We need to work together to fix the country. We need to make our government work for us. That means local level and up to congress who makes our laws. Get back to basics.

The double standard is that Donald was saying that Hillary was part of the Swamp - and he has done nothing but appoint insiders and big donors and wall street types himself - exactly what he was accusing Hillary of being.

I don't understand why every time Trump is criticized his supporters say - But Hillary. But Obama. That is irrelevant. Donald won the election and he is doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do. A labor secretary who is a millionaire who doesn't believe in a minimum wage is not going to be good for working class and poor families.

Not sure what's wrong with Andy Puzder. He seems like a very successful self-made man. He's gotten numerous awards for his work. I think this might be exactly the kind of person that we need. What would you rather? That Trump pick one of the managers from Carl's Jr. just so someone is "representing" the middle class? I think my preference would be the CEO. I really am genuinely asking what the problem with him is? Aside from the fact that you think he got the position from campaign donations, why do you think he can't do a good job?

Question was what was the double standard for ME?! as was asked.

None.

Did anyone see the new law passed in Oregon. They will be giving a surcharge to companies who's ceos make more than 100x the median salary of their workers. Sounds amazing to me. That's the kind of leadership that would actually help as labor secretary but that would never fly with this administration.
